Update: I've removed step 7 and added a new line to the end of the up.sh file.
This takes care of the final step for you, so to start split tunneling you only need to start openvpn; no need to enter any other commands afterwards.

HOW TO: VPN for one application (or several)
Preamble With the increasing amount of geoblocking, ISP website blocking, government monitoring, etc. the notion of using a VPN has become increasingly popular. One drawback when using a VPN, however, is the fact that all of your traffic goes through it, not just one or two programs. Of course, the...

What error does your FTP client give you when trying to upload?
Also, where is this home page located on your server? (eg. /var/www/)

What part doesn't work? Do you mean you're unable to upload a new version of your home page?
If so, what user are you logging in as through Windows? What user are you using to modify the home page on Linux? If they're two different users, you may not be allowed to overwrite the file.

Re: LM17 Failed to upgrade What's wrong?
The "levels" indicate how risky/new the update is rather than how urgent. Higher level updates are progressively tested and accordingly updated until they're considered safer and thus fall into lower level updates. That's not true. I have never seen an update starting at level 5 and then becoming a...

Does this happen on a reinstall even with older versions of the browsers? Or are you using the latest?
If you're using the latest, this might be relevant: http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=168231

Re: upgrade petra to mint 17 LTS without new install
You can change repositories is a few ways. The most user-friendly would probably be to: -open Synaptic Package Manager -go to Settings -> Repositories -go to the "Other Software" tab -click on an entry and edit it. If it has the name "saucy", change it to "trusty". If it has "petra", change it to "q...

Re: Is anyone else having problems with Chrome 35?
You've updated your browsers in the midst of some prominent changes :? As of v35, Chrome on Linux uses its own graphics stack (Aura). I'm guessing that's why 34 works but 35 doesn't. As of v29 of Firefox, Mozilla introduced the Australis interface. New interface and suddenly black lines in the URL f...

Re: upgrade petra to mint 17 LTS without new install
Change your repositories from Petra to Qiana and Saucy to Trusty. Then run: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Not the safest way to upgrade, but it does what you asked for. No reinstall, all programs and configuration remain. You might want to look at creating a separate /home partiti...

Re: Subdomain Configuration on Mint nginx Server
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking for help writing a PHP script to automatically generate and register a subdomain with nginx? Or are you having trouble manually creating subdomains? Either way, I don't think you'll be able to do all of this automatically via a script. Adding s...

Re: Linux Mint (or Ubuntu generally) Desktop Speed
As to MATE, I have not tried it. I have heard that XFCE and the other lightweight DE out there are fast, but honestly, using the live versions I can't say I notice much difference on older hardware. I haven't yet run with a full install however (of ubuntu flavors such as xubuntu or lubuntu). Runnin...

Re: Change from XFCE to Mate
Pretty much, yeah.
To make sure you get everything, install the mate-desktop-environment package.
After that, just log out, choose "MATE" from the Session menu, and login.
If you don't want XFCE on your computer at all afterwards, you can optionally remove xfce through the package manager.

Re: Intel 4th gen integrated graphics in software rendering
The software rendering problem is unique to Cinnamon, AFAIK, so you won't encounter it on Ubuntu. It could very well be using the same driver. You could install Mint MATE instead of Cinnamon and thus avoid the issue. Or, since you already have Ubuntu working, you could: -add the Mint 17 repository -...

Hi, I seem to be having a similar problem. I've installed OpenVPN for years on Windows without a problem. However with Mint I've tried Software Manager and Synapatic Package Manager and I get them to download and install but what happens after that is a complete mystery. I can't locate OpenVPN anyw...

Re: Which One
Software rendering will pass some graphics-intensive stuff to your CPU instead of your graphics card. Usually users are forced to use software rendering if their graphics card isn't good enough to run Cinnamon. It results in higher CPU usage and is typically much slower, though ultimately it depends...
