Re: 32 or 64 bit

Most of them are 32bit, some are 64bit. I can run 64bit OS live. Does that mean I can install 64bit OS, Providing I have enough RAM? Owners Manual sites a 2 GB RAM limit. I am guessing it can see just under 3 GB of RAM. That sounds like a 32bit system.

Re: 32 or 64 bit

Was able to boot Mint 18.0 64bit. 19 will boot but is a bit too much for the old machine. The processor is indeed 64 bit. What gets me is "Width: 32bits" See below. mint description: Portable Computer product: Vostro 1000 vendor: Dell Inc. version: Not Specified serial: CZVCLH1 width: 32 bits capabi...

Re: Hardinfo

The scenerio I am thinking of is - you booted a live session on a computer with failing HDD (Maybe somebodies Windows or Mac) You need to do somethings right now before it shutdowns. Would be nice to have something on the live session disc you can click on to get all the hardware info. Sure you can ...

ISP Can Throttle Router

I saw an ad in the Washington Post claiming they had device to keep isp from throttling my router. I was skeptical. I am sure they can throttle traffic to my router, but not do anything to the router itself. Might be possible with newer routers? I use an old Linksys WRT54G router. (it is faster than...

You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Doesn't come up all that often. When it does, not hard to install on the fly.

You can submit a feature request, but don't be surprised if it doesn't get picked up.
How do you make a feature request?

Re: Live User Name and Password

Newer versions have an enhanced System Report function built-in. Also available, since forever, lshw . In any event, the devs aren't going to include every package anyone might want. hardinfo would help expedite the use of life session in repair or installation. I don't think system report goes int...

Re: Live User Name and Password

No.

Will try next time.

I went to Settings - Screensaver and told it to never activate. That works for this session. I was able to sudo hardinfo this time w/out having to enter password.

Re: Live User Name and Password

In the Live OS, username = mint. Just leave the password field empty (i.e. hit Enter) That only works when booting. Once the screensaver comes on it requires a password. You can enter the user name "mint"' leave the password empty and hit enter but nothing happens. Also need password for sudo. I tr...

Hardinfo

Please include something like hardinfo in the live sessions. I booted an old laptop with 18.1 Cinnamon 32bit. I wanted to know as much as possible about the laptop hardware before deciding what to do with it. I could not install hardinfo from the command line using sudo. Did not have Password. What ...

Re: Install 20

Who ever is designing 20 would probably have a good idea. They would have to to make it work. As for minimum requirements that's not very realistic unless you are going to run everything from terminal. Ubuntu Desktop Edition 2 GHz dual core processor 4 GiB RAM (system memory) 25 GB of hard-drive spa...

Install 20

I plan to install 20 when it becomes available. Running 18.0 Cinnamon now. Due to high traffic on the net due to Covid-19 I am considering getting it on a USB stick. Where to buy? I am still running 18.0 on 2007 Dell Inspiron 1520, Intel 64bit dual core (not dual core duo) 4 GB RAM. Considering gett...

K3b works well on Cinnamon. Has more options than Xburn.
