Re: Check RAM

The MacBook has Intel EFI. Does not have apple ROM or BIOS I assume the EFI is in a chip on the mobo. I assume the EFI is coded to only make 3GB of RAM available. I just booted a drive from another computer in it that has Mint 19 Cinnamon 64bit on it. That drive has never had anything Mac on it. Tha...

Re: See All RAM

The MacBook has Intel EFI which limits RAM to 3GB. The MacBook is a 32bit/64bit hybrid. (64bit CPU) In this case the CPU is not the limiting factor. I do not think there is anything that can be done about the EFI liimitation. I would be glad to be wrong.

Re: Check RAM

hi borgward! You should see memtest86+ option if you boot from Grub (hold shift key during initial boot process to access grub if this is single OS system), you might also consider booting from USB live session to run the test Shift key does not bring up GRUB on MacBook. inxi -m Memory: No dmidecod...

Check RAM

How do I check RAM? I upgraded from 1.5 GB to 4 GB. Mint 18 Cinnamon (mattgradient) White mid 2007 Macbook. Only Linux installed. I know only 3 GB will be seen. I installed memtester but have not run it yet. The command line would be sudo memtester 2900 5? (2.9 GiB = 2900 MB). Do I test for how much...

See All RAM

I installed mattgradient Mint 18 Cinnamon 64bit on mid 2007 MacBook. Mint is the only OS on the drive. I plan to upgrade RAM to 4GB. The Mac OS will only use 3.5 GB of RAM. Will mint see all of it? If not, what would prevent it? Chipset ?

Re: Firefox Already Running

I used tom instead of USER in the command. I just ran sudo chown -Rc $USER:$USER $HOME. I am now able to run FF and am responding from the machine in question. Folder icons look correct now. changed ownership of '/home/tom/palemoon/palemoon' from root:root to tom:tom ... changed ownership of '/home/...

Re: Firefox Already Running

I did sudo rm -rf ~/.cache/mozilla and then ran FF from the terminal. No message in the terminal, but still get ff still running. I think the problem is in moving my home files from another drive running 18 to the new install of 19. I think I will remove 19 and install 18 and then move my home files...

Re: Firefox Already Running

Can't find .mozilla folder. Where is it supposed to be? Found it. Permissons are: Owner - Create and delete files Group - Access files Folder Access - access files I opened Firefox folder. Has same permissions. It has folders: Crash Reports ejs0318e.default-1486759665347-1511552392699 (it is locked)...

Been there. Done that. Maybe a 10th time will be a charm. Nope. Good suggestion. It;s getting to where you have to restart anytime you update FF, That,s so Windows like.

Firefox Already Running

Just ran Mint update. I start FF I get message "Firefox is already running, but it is not responding. To open a new window you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system," I had already restarted system after updating FF to 63.0.3. I check System Monitor to see if FF is ru...

Re: flip_done timed_out

19 V2 has 4.15.0-39-generic (X86_64) kernel. Begs the question why 18.0 that I am currently running has kernel 4.4.0-139-generic (X86_64) kernel. Both 18, and 19 are fully updated. I am running both on the same laptop. Very easy to switch out HDD's on the Inspiron i520. I got the kernel version from...

Re: Move home from one drive to another

How do I know when the copy command has completed? The $ prompt has not yet returned in the terminal I ran it in and the HDD indicator light is still flashing. About 200GB will be transferred. Hours, days to complete? I now have a $ prompt. The HDD light on my laptop is still churning. What's with t...

Re: Move home from one drive to another

What is the procedure for copying home on an external drive to another drive? I know I can use the cp -R command to do it. Are there any preliminary actions I need to do before running the command? I tried: sudo cp -R /media/tom/9983149b-3a05-462b-96a6-939625e6c7b6/tom /home/tom/ cp: cannot stat '/...
