Audio devices only showing up with dummy output. No audio

I have an ASUS FX553VD with dual boot Win10 and Mint 18.1. The only available drivers are for Windows 10, on the site and they are by Realtek. I was getting audio when I was installing mint out of the USB drive. however, since booting from my disk, it's only showing dummy output available. I tried p...

Re: Software manager not working

In my case mintinstall was failing because of a freetype package error, which I found from the error: ImportError: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libharfbuzz.so.0: undefined symbol: FT_Reference_Face If that's what someone else is getting as well, uninstalling freetype package solved my problem and may s...

Re: Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

Ah, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize the issue with acestream, since it turns out that it wasn't really related to the problem anyway (and I don't want any help with that), I'll remove it from the thread to make it better. Could you please mark this problem as Solved? As I posted in my earlier post, t...

Re: Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

Yup, that's solved the problem. the issue was with the package freetype-2.4.0

VLC player is working as well now. Same problem. Can you please tell me how can I dig deeper into this issue, because solving it will solve other people's problems as well.

Re: Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

So I noticed I hadn't done much digging with the actual error given in the message. ImportError: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libharfbuzz.so.0: undefined symbol: FT_Reference_Face I went ahead and searched my packages for freetype library installed: dpkg-query --list | grep "freetype" ii libfreetype6:a...

Re: Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

Am I correct in assuming that removing any python and related library from linux and reinstalling would be disastrous? It seems there are too many dependencies. Ok so the changes I remember making are: Adding deb http://repo.acestream.org/ubuntu/ raring main to the sources.list Installing dependenci...

Re: Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

Hi, I'm sorry it took a long time for this, but here's the output of the grep command: 2017-01-29 09:36:43 install gedit-common:all <none> 3.18.3-0ubuntu4 2017-01-29 09:36:45 install gedit:amd64 <none> 3.18.3-0ubuntu4 2017-01-29 09:48:38 install python-apsw:amd64 <none> 3.8.11.1-r1-1build1 2017-01-2...

Re: Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

Hey, so I saw your grep code and thought maybe I could use this opportunity to start learning grep (bash in general) too maybe :D My initial log was huge because I'd done build-dep on a couple of things, for example build-dep python2 python3, so I tried egrep " install|update " /var/log/dpkg.log | g...

<SOLVED> Software Manager, Software Sources and other applications don't open

Hi, I recently installed and set up Linuxmint 18.1 cinnamon on my laptop. Since the last 3 days, my software manager, the software sources gui from Administration menu and VLC have stopped opening. For the first two, the system does ask me for my password but nothing happens after that. I'm not sure...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

I'm using Asus N61J laptop with GT325M. I tried installing these drivers and only had one "error" which I didn't think was a major one: The NVIDIA 32-bit compatibility OpenGL libraries are to be installed relative to the top-level prefix (chroot) '/emul/ia32-linux'; however, this directory does not ...
