Figured it out, easy fix. Type "msconfig, click on Boot tab, unselect "Safe Mode".
But I still don't understand why installing Linux caused this to happen...

Win10 booting into Safe Mode
I have a brand new Acer Aspire 3 laptop with Win10 that I just bought, and I want to dual boot (to use Linux Mint 90% of the time). Spent hours loading all the Win10 updates and everything seemed fine with Win10 so I loaded Linux Mint Mate 20.1, to dual boot with GRUB. LM loaded perfectly, no proble...

I have the same problem, same error message.
I upgraded to Linux Mint 19 and now I cannot print on my HP Deskjet 1000.

Re: Windows 10 in VirtualBox as guest OS
I think I figured it out. There were 3 things I needed to change in UEFI, or BIOS, or whatever you call it.
1. Disable Secure Boot
2. Enable AHCI
3. Enable Legacy Mode
LM is installing on the new SSD now...

Re: Windows 10 in VirtualBox as guest OS
I got my new laptop in the mail. It took over 2.5 hours to load the M$ Win 10 updates, and 4 reboots. Ridiculous! (I hate Windows) I turned off Secure Boot in the BIOS (or is it called UEFI now?). I tested the laptop with Linux Mint Mate 19.1 booted from a USB Flash drive, everything seemed to work ...

Re: Windows 10 in VirtualBox as guest OS
Thanks for the replies, looks like I will just have to try it and see. I did some more searching and one website says I can put the Win10 in a virtual machine, but I will have to get on the phone with Microsoft and explain the situation to get the product key to transfer over to the VM. I'm going to...

Windows 10 in VirtualBox as guest OS
I just ordered a new laptop, it will arrive in a few days. (Lenovo Flex 5 15.6") First I will remove the SSD and replace it with a Samsung EVO 970 500GB (instantly voiding the laptop warranty) I use Linux about 99% of the time and Windows 1%. I don't want to dual-boot. My question is, after I i...

Re: Supplying 750mA to a USB device
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple of external hard drives that are powered with USB Y power cables. How do they manage to power the HDD from two USB ports??? For example here is one on Amazon that claims to use the second USB port for power. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-3-Feet-Cable-Externa...

Supplying 750mA to a USB device
Hello, I'm not sure where to post this so I will post it here. Maybe it is not a LM question but is a general computer hardware question. I am running LM 18.1 on an HP Z420 desktop computer. I have a USB device that I want to provide about 750mA of current to. So I bought this "USB Power Y Exte...

Re: Can't format USB flash drive
The USb flash disk is showing up as /dev/sdb. However I tried the Disks utility and it does not allow me to mount or unmount or do anything to partitions because it doesn't see any partitions I've tried command line interface commands with dd, parted, fdisk, and mkfs and they all give me the same er...

Re: Can't format USB flash drive
Thanks for the help everyone. I am giving up and I'm completely baffled. I tried the HP USB Disk Format Tool and it sees a removable drive in "I:" but when I select it and try to format, it says "There is no media in the specified device" Windows Disk Management sees the drive bu...

Can't format USB flash drive
I have a 4GB USB flash drive that I loaded an image of Linux Mint on. I used Unetbootin on a WIndows 7 computer to burn the ISO to the USB flash drive, like I have done several times in the past. This time however, I tried to boot to the USB drive on the computer I wanted to load LM on, but it did n...

Newbie question about drivers (wifi)
I just did a brand-new install of LM 17.1 on an Acer laptop. During the install I had wired ethernet connected. Wifi didn't work after the install, I typed lspci and LM told me I had a Broadcom BCM4312 wifi card. 15 minutes of Google and I figured out I needed to install the driver. sudo apt-get ins...

Re: Want to use Win 7 Recovery partition
Thanks for taking the time to write that. I think just to be safe I will first clone the entire SSD using Clonezilla and if something goes wrong then I can revert back.
I'm going to try #1.

Re: Want to use Win 7 Recovery partition
I want to use that space to store files. Mostly will be movies I think. I want LM to access it but I don't care if Win 7 can access it (I rarely use Win 7 its only there for when I occasionally need it). Since I will never restore the computer using the Recovery partition, this 25GB is going to wast...

Want to use Win 7 Recovery partition
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 and then Linux Mint 17 on an SSD in my laptop. It is dual booting and everything is working great. (I love SSD) However, the Win 7 installation made a 25GB Recovery partition that I do not want or need. That 25GB is 10% of my entire SSD space and I want to use...
