Figured it out, easy fix. Type "msconfig, click on Boot tab, unselect "Safe Mode".
But I still don't understand why installing Linux caused this to happen...

I have the same problem, same error message.
I upgraded to Linux Mint 19 and now I cannot print on my HP Deskjet 1000.

I think I figured it out. There were 3 things I needed to change in UEFI, or BIOS, or whatever you call it.

1. Disable Secure Boot
2. Enable AHCI
3. Enable Legacy Mode

LM is installing on the new SSD now...

My BIOS or UEFI is seeing the new SSD, but GParted isn't...
