[SOLVED] Sane cannot find my Canon Pixma TS5150

Success! :D Although a bit of frustration at first. :? I got an update to the "bleeding edge" sane-backends and noticed the sane-pixma man page was updated with info that Pixma TS5100 was on the list of scanner series that were now recognized, though not guaranteed to be fully supported. So I turned...

Re: Sane cannot find my Canon Pixma TS5150

A-ha, now I see that I had added this repo on the Mint 17 box to get the latest sane. That explains why I got so frequent updates and why it had a newer version. Now I added this on the Mint 19 and got the same version of sane-pixma. BUT xsane still cannot find the scanner! Something more fundamenta...

Re: Sane cannot find my Canon Pixma TS5150

Ok it just seems a bit odd that my Mint 17 (based on Ubuntu 14.04) has a more updated sane library. I have noticed that the sane-backends get updated quite often. Yes I installed the drivers from Canon but these are not of any help for using xsane. I also tried to download Vuescan which was mentione...

Re: Sane cannot find my Canon Pixma TS5150

How should I have known that an older O/S might be better? I want to have a Mint version that will be supported for a number of years ahead. Edit: interesting observation: man sane-pixma on Mint 17 says PIXMA TS5000 is supported, but on Mint 19 it is instead on the list that "have not yet been repor...

Re: Sane cannot find my Canon Pixma TS5150

Thanks but that only explained how to install Canon's very basic scanner app, and I did get that to work. What I'm missing is being able to run from xsane and hopefully get some more options besides scanning the whole page in 300 dpi. The scanner is supposed to support up to 1200x2400. Update: I fou...

[SOLVED] Sane cannot find my Canon Pixma TS5150

I previously had problems with the scanner part of the printer/scanner in Mint 17: I could only scan the whole page in 300 dpi. I was hoping this would get better with Mint 19. Now I finally got another desktop and have installed Mint 19. But now it's even worse. :-( I did install the driver and sca...

Re: gnubiff popup fails

But that post also says: 2 - use your window-manager (I used the "Matching Windows" feature of Sawfish) or devilspie to automatically resize the window when it appears. I have no idea what that means.... I just installed Mint 19 and after doing the edit to /usr/share/gnubiff/popup.ui I do get a wind...

Unable to nfs mount from new mint 19 to mint 17

I seem to get into trouble with NFS every time I get a new computer.... I've been running two boxes with Mint 14 and 17 and I have mounted home directories both ways. Never bothered to automate since they tend to be on continuously, so I just mount manually after reboot. Now the Mint 14 is being ret...

Re: scangearmp2 on Mint 17 with Pixma TS5150, only very basic interface

Thanks for the tip, I installed the latest sane backend but it made no difference. I suspect it's the scangearmp2 driver that sets the limits. The screenshots I have seen was from the tool that came with it but mine has no preview windows, menus or other fancy stuff, just a handful of buttons. Ah we...

scangearmp2 on Mint 17 with Pixma TS5150, only very basic interface

I have installed scangearmp2 (version 3.50) on my Mint 17 box and am able to connect to my Canon Pixma TS5150. But the tool only gives me the very basic options. I can choose color or gray scale, page size and output as JPEG or PDF but that's it. It will only let me scan the entire page in the defau...

Re: Windows 9 Scrapped, Skip To Windows 10. Metro Killed.

Apparently they had to drop 9 because lots of software checks for the O/S name starting with "Windows 9" and then behaves as if it's Windows 95 or 98. Imagine frustrated users being told their system is not supported or some functionality will be missing and they need to "upgrade to Windows XP or la...

Re: gcc fatal error:stdio.h:No such file or directory

Probably because that other stdio.h is something completely different from the standard stdio.h and it meant to be used in a different context. No I don't know *what* that is, except it's not the same....

Re: isolating facebook

FB and others don't track what the machine is doing on the web, they track via cookies what the browser is doing. Each one has its own set of cookies, so I don't think you even need to create a separate user. It should be enough to create a separate FF profile and run a separate FF instance; one for...

Re: Hibernate, suspend and shutdown for laptops

Shouldn't Hibernate turn the laptop completely off? It sure does on mine, though I do this manually instead of having it done when I close the lid. I;m running Mint 15 Mate. FWIW the same is true on my work laptop which runs Fedora 19 (not my choice, for work related reasons I *have* to run Fedora 8...

Re: [abandoned] send mail from bash script - mailx

With all this quoting it can be hard to figure out what $ARGS ends up containing. You are echoing it for debugging but neglect to tell us what you see. That would help.

Re: Opera Browser is back on Linux

But the bookmarks are still gone right? I have my bookmarks in a panel on the left which means the frequently used ones can be opened with ONE muse click. The Speed Dial cannot possibly match that as one first has to open a new tab and *then* click. So I'll stick with version 12....

Re: HDD keeps running

Another possibility is that some part of your system is incomplete or misconfigured, causing it to continously write messages to the syslog or some other log. Check /var/log and see if some file is unusually large or keeps getting written to.

Re: gThumb to download from my camera

Don't know about gThumb, I use gphoto2 which has a command line option --filename for which you can provide a pattern for using the date. I haven't used this myself though, I just get the default IMG_NNNN from my Canon. But a nice feature is that the timestamp of the file is set to the time the pict...

Re: gnubiff popup fails

It's broken in Mint 17 Mate too. The first time the popup was correctly sized and once I have somehow managed to click on the applet to make it appear right again. But normally, it shows an almost invisible popup which is only a few pixels high. This is very frustrating. :( There is also a tool call...
