Re: Do I need antivirus if I use Wine?

the General Assumption, is that any ./wine installation, will make your Linux System, less secure. :? as some-one who does have several ./wine installations, on a few of my PCs, & there has never been any issues & never any need to install any A/V on either the Linux Host or in any of those ./wine e...

Re: Gonna scan photos from the 80s and 90s. Which file format from this list should we use?

also have done this, with an big pile, of photo's from the parents generation, and with an win-xp based program, that gave an output to an JPG file, at high resolution. then later on, with an stand-alone device that placed an JPG onto an usb stick, that was inserted into it's usb port. .. this was t...

Re: Can malware jump from Windows to Linux in a dual boot set up?

in most cases, any jump, is fairly unlikely.

even if there was an bridge, say via using an cloud storage, that was accessed by both systems,
- it's still quite unlikely.

any VM Guest is in an sandboxed scenario, as is any ./wine based system.
- - so, it's still quite unlikely, there, as well.

just lately, it seems that I've taken an liking for SlimJet, as that still has an 32 bit version, that will install as an *.deb file, on this LM18x 32 bit system. but, on another partition, were LM19x 64bit, does reside, is an copy of the Brave Browser. 8) it's that Firefox, that is still my main we...

Re: unallocated space on disk

my former home is now unallocated
that could mean:
- the existing /home is Not being allocated / used by the New System
- the existing /home is UN-allocated Free Space , as it got Formatted by the Installer.
:?

so, an screen_shot from Gparted - would assist .. .

Re: unallocated space on disk

if the New Installation, now has it's own /home, then you didn't specify that original /home,
in order for it to be reused again.

as suggested - - redo the Installation - - again.
& pay close attention, to what the Installer is saying.

Re: Windows 10 on Virtualbox - dvd driver

you should also give that win-10 some extra room, to move:
- - at least 4,000Mb of VirtualMemory
( assuming the Host has 8Gb for memory, then you can goto 5500Mb )

- - at least 50Gb of VitualDriveSpace

you should also enable NX / VTx in BIOS & in the Virtual Settings.
( in System / Processor Tab )

Re: Setting up for move to Linux

Hi phil, you should have an fairly straight-forward effort in installing that dual_boot system. & with that win-7 system, you can just use the Installer's partitioning menu, to set the size, for each system, - - by adjusting the slider with your mouse, to move that slider, to give what size you desi...

Re: Mint 19.2 Dual Boot with Windows

you should be able to run with Secure Boot disabled, if that works better. that second windows boot manager, may have been supplied by both systems, and then disabled, by updates, from one of the installed systems. you should be able to set the machine, to boot with the LinuxMint Boot Loader, and th...

Re: 18.3 to 19.2 on Toshiba Satellite Pro

you should be able to upgrade from 18.3 to 19.2 by using the latest LinuxMint ISO & you can also write that ISO to an usb stick, in order to Install that version to your drive. as far as the higher usb port's power consumption, that may be an kernel issue, & Jean would have to shift to another LM19x...

IMHO an amount of 8Gb - - is plenty .. of ram.
ie: I've not needed anything above that amount,, But - I'm not doing any Gaming // Cad either.
& that size will work well with most VirtualBox Scenario's as well.
