Re: Grub Customizer - Good or Bad.???

it's not as good as first blush makes it out to be, but, nether-less, it's still an useful program, anyway. once you've figured out how to actually install it, you then have to figure out how to use it. - it does pay to make a copy of grub.cfg though - - just in case. change the screen resolution, d...

so, what size is the Ram & HDD stated as being?. have a look at this Tutorial: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=163126 it's written for win-8x but does apply to win-10 as well. and have a look at what SwanRider has said here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&a...

Re: Install window 10 alongside Linux with CD !

that is actually a surprisingly good technique.
8)
when you consider that the average consumer grade win-10 64bit machine,
- has only 4gb of ram, which is just enough to run a 64bit system,
and more than enough to run a 32bit system

Re: Install window 10 alongside Linux with CD !

it really depends directly on how the HDD is currently partitioned. so, boot the live version of LinuxMint & find Gparted. then use that program to display the current partition layout of that HDD, and post a screen_shot of that - - back here. if the layout is workable, then you will need to cre...

Re: Anyone got any interesting hobbies?

The police claim hey will catch whoever is doing it if a witness calls during the act, Unfortunately the response time is lowest priority. Out of 400 officers. One individual will be called if he is on duty. The prosecuters will blame the victim if someone is killed. Absolute joke. Could easily kil...

well - - I've no issues in installing the software with ./wine, and it is similar to the Chirp software that is used for similar type programming of H/Hs. but there would still be two issues: - getting the serial port to work in ./wine - getting a prolific chip to work with the serial cable - - if t...

Re: GParted not included with Mint Cinnamon?

Yeah, that's correct:
- when Ubiquity is removed, then Gparted is removed, as well.

if you want it back, then you will have to manually re-install it.
- it's something that I'm re-installing, as a matter of course.

it's also worth looking at this Tutorial:
http://zoringroup.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 7&start=10
it was pertinent a few years back, when the ModeSwitch was not being updated regularly,
and the latest post for this year, does also point to installing ModeSwtich again.

+1 for a refurb 8) try and get one that has win-7 on it, as that will have better hardware, than some machine that had Vista on it. although, having said that, some of the later Vista PCs were pretty good, too. otherwise, depending on where you live, you can indeed get an machine with Linux pre-inst...

Re: How to migrate from 17.3 Cinnamon to 18.2 Cinnamon?

righto on that - - I've always formatted the partition, if no separate /home was available, and there was only the usual / root and /swap from some basic Ubuntu system, & that was being replaced. as I've always assumed that there would be some issues with retaining files, from the older system, ...

Re: Am I really using an SSD drive?

are you in the US or in the EU ?

most of my ( google ) searches don't show that model,
& it seems that 512Gb is the largest size available.

so, depending on your location, you may be getting a more recent model machine.
