No need to fiddle around manually with anything.

the new FF57 update, made it down-under - overnight.

Re: Firefox 57 - Quantum

the thing is, that Firefox, along with M$ Windows - - is losing it's Market Share. :o so, they are both trying to recover, at least, some of that Market Share, and they way that they both are going about doing that - isn't very pretty. - that will, of course, upset lots of people. in the case of Fir...

Re: Os Passwords

that can't be right - - you must have set both, when you installed LinuxMint . . or, the installer would not have finished, it's installation correctly. what you must have done, is to set the system to Auto-LogIn during the actual installation. so, do you remember the UserName - at all ?. if you don...

Re: Unable to install or even run Linux Mint on Asus X70io laptop

if you have set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive & that failed to boot, then that means that either the drive is a CD,, rather than DVD type drive, or that the drive itself it faulty . . but, since you then tried out the USB boot and that too failed, then there is another issue at hand,, in w...

Re: "Decrease swap Use"

that would be correct, in order to modify sysctl.conf

but catweazel was also referring to /var/log/syslog to be looked at.

do try shutting down, rebooting, and then modifying sysctl.conf in order to decrease the swappiness factor.
