Re: Reboot and select proper boot device

is there a Legacy Mode option in the BIOS?.
usually, it's toggled, with the UEFI option, so that you can only have one of them Enabled.

you can have all sorts of issues with a recycled win-8x machine,
in that the BIOS was completely mangled.

Re: *Still* No Sound from onboard audio, don't want sound from Nvidia HDMI

it took me, nearly a week, to get the sound working on my new 64bit machine, as the initial installation did not identify the hardware correctly. for starters, I'd went to the machine manufacturers site, to get what they said the hardware was, & then compared that to what inxi -Fxz said was the ...

Re: Grub odd boot issue

you could try to install the grub Loader, from a Live / install version of LinuxMint: https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/245 or you could try using Boot-Repair: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=207529 either way, should work & shouldn't mess up the system on either sda or ...

Re: Looking ahead: what will happen when Windows 10 Creators Edition is unleashed?

even if you do have the Two Systems on two different drives, you could still come unstuck: say, that Linux is on sda & windows is on sdb & the CU updates the windows boot loader, - will it place that onto sdb, where windows is located, or onto sda, where Linux is located ?. - - there is a hi...

Re: Grub odd boot issue

well - it is possible that the process that you did was the cause of not being able to install grub on sda,
but, did the installer give an error at he end of the installation, when it tried to write the Grub Loader to sda?.

can you remember, just what that error was ?.

Re: Files vanish - don't go to wastebin

Most of us think that a file on our computer is deleted once we put the file in our computer's trash folder and empty the trash; in reality, deleting the file does not completely erase it. When one does this, the computer just makes the file invisible to the user and marks the part of the disk that ...

Re: When is Linux Mint Stretch/Betsy out?

you are unlikely to ever see an Alpha version of LMDE,
but if you did watch the FTP site closely, then you would be able to get an Beta version of it,
& of course, the Final Version, as well.

Re: Can anyone Answer My Question About Cinamon 18.2 is

That is correct, in what you read: However, that incident was just for the one ISO version of just one of the several DEs that are available. that one ISO was patched by a 3rd party, and was available for just a few hours, before it was detected. & as a result of that incident, the ISO checksum ...

Re: Remote access to Mint

Yes - - there is - as jimallyn has already stated.

if you follow what jimallyn said, you would find that Remmina is a remote desktop connection client,
that able to display and control a remote desktop session.

and there are some others that are also based on VNC - that you could also use.

Re: Remote access to Mint

?.. Here's my question. Does Linux have a similar option (by default) to Windows' Remote Assistance/Desktop that could be exploited by the bad guys? If so how to check that it's disabled. I think probably not, but just wanted to be sure, since I'm still a relative newby to Linux. I'd like to know t...

Do Take the Time to Read the LinuxMint Users Guide that came with the installation.

Re: Login prompt during installation?

it still doesn't sound right - - it should only ask for your User & Pwd as part of the installation. and those details won't come into play until the installation is completed, & where you reboot into the newly installed system. yes - - there is a default User & Pwd in the installer, the...

you will see a few changes, since your last visit.

do remember that the LinuxMint project is based on an conservative approach,
and as such, the software in the repository is not always the latest release.
