Re: NEED HELP! Unwated user accessing my laptop via WiFi

unless you know off some Remote Program, that is / was running on your machine,, then there is still no way of checking for this . . so, you can now have two options: - go for the Nuclear Option & re-install the Linux System, again. - keep using the machine, until you see this issue again .. it may ...

since you don't have any /boot in the current setup, then you also shouldn't need it in the proposed setup. in that vacant space, you can create Two New Partitions - - / root & /home - just like there already is . . - you can call them sda3 & sda4 OR sda7 & sda 8 - - it won't make any difference . ....

Re: Need info for laptops that will install a dual boot mint /windows system

~snip Because of this, tech-geeks prefer to keep both OS and its bootloaders on separate drives, eg ... 1. use 2 different computers or 2. use 2 internal hard-drives(= for desktops) or 3. keep Win 10 on the internal hard-drive and install LM 19 on an external USB hard-drive or 4. install LM on a vi...

unless I'm missing something, synaptic won't apply any updates automatically?
Nope - - it's a Fully Manual Method.
:(
even the Mint Update is only Semi - Automatic.
:o
which is much safer than that Full Automatic Method that the Windows System forces on it's users.

that Windows System works by having an Driver for Everything .. ... but the Linux System does not have that many Drivers, in fact very few are needed. so, what you may need to do, is to boot using an Different Kernel,, and see if the Read / Write issue remains, or is fixed. - you may need to try mor...

it was usually HP / Dell that gave the most issues when trying any Dual_Boot out. the Lenovo / Toshiba / Acer did seem to be okay, when trying any Dual_Boot out. at least, that is what I've found .. the thing is, that Before you attempt any Dual_Boot - - you should Test All that Hardware: - in the L...

in general, if the machine has less than, say, 2Gb of ram, and / or the CPU is less than 2GHz and / or there is an older style HDD: then any combination of those - can make the Installation Very Slow indeed. if you are booting an Disk instead of an usb stick - then that can be somewhat slower, as we...
