you can - sometimes - get these cards working again - by using software for that system.

Re: TPM 2.0 and what it is?
if you still have to use Windows - then use win-10 . . - it's still valid for another few years & then good for another few after that - you also can install O&O ShutUp10 onto that. in my case - I'm still got win-7 on an HP Laptop - for specific Ham Radio Software - that is connected to the ...

you can install win-11 Home in off-line mode - it's an hack, of course, but there is an few variations available - personally - I'd Not recommend any version of the windows system. but if you have to use it - then the latest version is the more secure version  Yes - you can leave TPM ...

Re: Mint Install on externall SSD with Windows SSD disconnected
once you have written the LinuxMint ISO to an usb stick,
then you can reboot, whilst that is still inserted into an usb port,
from where it should get to the LinuxMint Desktop.
if you can get that far, do what mikeflan said above.
- do post back, if you do get stuck, at any point.

Re: Mint Install on externall SSD with Windows SSD disconnected
is there another SSD in that old HP Laptop
if so, then reboot with that usb stick in it's port,
& check that all of the hardware does work & that the LinuxMint installer can see that other drive.
if there is no other SSD, then you really do have to use an dual_boot scenario.
