Can't mount encrypted Ubuntu home directory

Migrating from Ubuntu to Mint, I want to mount my Ubuntu home dir. I use the same username and password for both OSes, so this should make things simple, right? Nope. Boot up Mint, go to /media/dandv/Ubuntu/home/dandv in Nemo, and I see Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop . Nothing happens when trying ...

Re: Windows Key + Number Key?

Cinnamon doesn't have a good solution for this. Both applets mentioned earlier fail to handle a very common case - reordering windows. https://github.com/HenryNugraha/Window-List-Hotkey/issues/5 https://github.com/jake-phy/WindowIconList/issues/147 I've posted on AskUbuntu about desktop environments...

Switch among applications with Super+numbers / Win+1, 2, 3 etc.

How can I switch among windows using the Win key plus the numbers 1 through 9, like in Windows or in Ubuntu's Unity?

I've used these handy keyboard shortcuts to save a lot of time - I have my file manager always open as the first window, then my browser as #2, IDE as #3 etc.

Re: primary monitor for dual monitor system

Setting the primary monitor in ~/.config/monitors.xml did the trick for me. Firefox and other windows open on the display to the right, and that's where the taskbar is too. Some applications open first on the secondary display (to the left) but after closing and re-lanuching them, they open where th...

Re: Stability Anyone?

Use LMDE, it is stable and safe, and you do not have to upgrade all the time, I have been using it for quite a while Are we talking about the same LMDE? From http://www.linuxmint.com/download_lmde.php: 4. How does LMDE compare to the Ubuntu-based editions? Cons: Although it's using Romeo for unstab...

Re: How to make Cinnamon look like Windows 7

That applet is a good start. I'm looking for more thorough emulation of the Win7 look&feel and behavior: ⋅ window button icons like in Xubuntu's Albatross theme Xubuntu Albatross window theme.png ⋅ Windows-like mouse cursor icons, in particular while performing drag'n'drop op...

How to make Cinnamon look like Windows 7

This is a bit of an FAQ, but I only found a 2-year old thread about how to make Mint look like Win7 (for friends/coworkers to switch over to Linux as painlessly as possible). Moreover, the video in that thread is 3 years old. So how can Mint (Cinnamon in particular, though I don't have a preferred w...
