Re: Drop LMDE or turn it over to a community group!

Since Linux Mint is unable or unwilling to keep LMDE up-to-date, perhaps they should just drop it altogether or turn it over to a community to maintain. I have long since moved on to Debian Wheezy with the Mate 1.6 desktop installed. Works fine, no need to wait anymore for Linux Mint to release new...

[Q] IP Adress Swithing Leads to Forum Ban?

Hey guys and gals, I hope this post finds everyone doing well, leading into the holidays. I just ran into a really inseresting "issue", and I feel compelled to share/inquire. In an attempt to gain a bit more security over my web browsing experience, I installed the Firefox add-on, anonymoX ( https:/...

Re: Who is Mints target user?

Yeah a users experience on Linux should not be judged on there post count. Thats just silly yet i see other distro fourms doing that. Anyway you seem like you would really enjoy Manjaro Linux. Its arch based and its rolling stable branch is really great. Keep in mind the stable branch is cutting ed...

Re: Who is Mints target user?

Haha, fair enough, and of course, you're correct. I haven't spent much time, researching SteamOS proper, but my guess is that it will be very game-centric, and maybe less of a full-blown OS. If that's the case, Mint and Ubuntu will still have their place among the gaming community. I hope I'm wrong ...

Re: Who is Mints target user?

I think the gaming side of things will attract more people over to SteamOS (once it's released) rather than Mint. Many who have never even heard of Linux know of SteamOS, much like Android and ChromeOS. Although Linux is now at the point where some cards [url=http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a...

Re: Who is Mints target user?

This is a really interesting topic...Despite my low post count, I'm not a complete n00b; I have a lot to learn, but I've been running Linux for a year now, and I began the journey with Mint 13, so I feel compelled to chime in. As others have stated, Mint seems to target a few different demographics:...

Re: New Guy Looking For Linux Knowledge :D

As someone who made the jump from Windows to Linux last December, I can relate with the "fear of the unknown" element. Regardless of how much reading you do (and you should do quite a bit) prior to taking the Linux plunge, that anxiety will always be there, until you actually do it (install Linux). ...

Re: Update unable to refresh package list on Mint 16 Cinnamo

Are you getting the pop-up box, stating "Unable to refresh package list" in the update manager? If so (and without any additional information to go on), I'd suggest that you may have some outdated/depreciated PPAs in your list, that the update manager can't pull from. I had this happen to me the oth...

Re: [Q]Customized Linux for Android Development and Theming

Thanks for the reply Sam, I really appreciate the feedback. I don't have an external HDD, so your method would only really work for me... It's a compelling reason for me to purchase an external though. I should probably clarify in the OP, that I'd be building this mainly for newer devs, as a "comple...

[Q]Customized Linux for Android Development and Theming

Hey everyone, I'm interested in undertaking a rather curious project, and it's one that I haven't seen any documentation about. I'd like to build a Linux distro that is specifically designed for Android developers and themers. My rationale is as follows: Linux distributions come pre-installed with t...

Re: CLI cheat sheet

Great resource thread! Thank you for putting this together. I've been lurking in the forums since making the switch from W8 to Linux, and I've been looking for something like this. I've been creating my own CLI lists as I go, but they're mainly geared towards building Android...Outside of those comm...

Re: I need help with wifi/internet.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, so please bear with me. So, Ubuntu 13.04 works perfectly on my Satellite L855, but no other distro seems compatible with my 8188ce WiFi drivers, which is frustrating. As an example, I have the latest LMDE installed on my HP G60 230US, and it works fine, but the distro...

Re: Mint 14,Mate and Cinnamon edition: which one is more sta

Personally, I prefer Cinnamon (I like the polished, yet clean look), running LMDE. The Debian testing base is as stable as it gets, and I haven't run into a single problem yet.
