Re: Installing a windows browser in Linux Mint

Like has been mentioned earlier, there's no shortage of user agent switching extensions for a variety of browsers. I had Windows malware hose my WINE directory (and only my WINE directory) once. This was back in 2008, running Ubuntu 8.04. I just restored my backup of that directory. I don't know why...

.. when I catch a predator eating it's prey (for those interested (I'm guessing not many here ;) ); We have many red-tailed hawks living in my neighbourhood, as I live near a hill with high tree tops. They even land in my backyard (usually in the winter months) to sun themselves. They are very beau...

Re: Anyone got any interesting hobbies?

I help my son and his friends with their YouTube vids...mostly help with lighting rigs and audio gear (I'm an amateur musician).
They're trying to develop their gaming channel.

It's possible the folder/directory is marked "hidden".

Try the unhiding option from your file browser.

Re: older distros of Mint

This is one of the scenarios where I'd recommend Lubuntu 16.04. I wouldn't even bother trying to mash an LXDE desktop onto Mint either. No need to make this complicated.

Re: Musicians on here?

I'm currently in the process of ripping my band's music from cassette tape to my main workstation. I've got about 30 hours ripped, with another 20-25 more hours to go. The recordings date as far back as 1985...miraculously, the tape hasn't disintegrated...largely due to proper storage and originally...

Budgie seems interesting. Let's see where it is in terms of development in a year when Canonical releases 18.04 , as I am a primarily Ubuntu LTS user.

Re: Pre-loaded Linux Laptops?

It can be difficult (and expensive) to get a decent laptop without an OS.
I just bite the bullet and pay the "Microsoft Tax", then wipe Windows when I buy a new machine.

Re: Hauppauge TV tuner 950Q

I've had good luck with Hauppauge tuners under Linux since 2004. Their documentation could be a little better, but there are so many tutorials out there by enthusiasts, I've never run into a Hauppauge problem that didn't have an easy to follow solution.

Re: Record what you hear

Hmmm...I've been using Audio Recorder for about 2 years now...I didn't consider using it for this purpose.

You're right about OBS...slightly overkill, but I want to explore it more deeply.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Record what you hear

Can anyone recommend a good, easy to use "record-what-you-hear" application for recording gameplay sound as well as two plugged in USB mics (Blue Yeti). I normally use my Blue Yeti mic when I record simple spoken-word with Audacity. I'd like to record conversation while I'm playing retro R...

I couldn't get the Budgie edition to install under VirtualBox, but the MATE edition installed just fine.

Assuming it's a USB webcam, just type:

lsusb

...into a terminal, hit ENTER and see what it gives forth.
If you don't know which specific line to look for, just copy and paste the entire contents of the terminal window after issuing lsusb.

Maybe the $100 should just stay in your pocket. Just the impression I get from your post.
