Re: Viewing ppsx files with sound

Yeah, I remember seeing that. I have libreoffice-avmedia-backend-gstreamer, but I don't know how to install libreoffice-avmedia-backend-vlc. In any case, LibreOffice doesn't even recognize that sounds or links are present in the presentations. The links to play the sound behave no differently than a...

Viewing ppsx files with sound

I'm running Mint 19 Cinnamon x64, and I have a couple ppsx files that have links as well as embedded sound/PDFs/video, and at a minimum I want the links and sound to work properly. LibreOffice completely butchers the files and nothing works. I managed to get a copy of PowerPoint Viewer installed in ...

Re: Suspend Doens't Work

To follow up: I went ahead and switched from the johnlewis.ie firmware to the Mr.Chromebox firmware and reinstalled, and now suspend works on my Chromebook - without any extra configuration, even.

Suspend Doens't Work

I recently installed Linux Mint 19 x64 Cinnamon on my Acer Chromebook C710 since the Chromebook hit end of life and the last update was causing frequent crashes. Everything works well for the most part, except for suspend. Whenever I try to suspend, either via the shutdown menu or shutting the lid (...

Re: Cities: Skylines won't start

OK, so I tried to run Cities: Skylines from the console but it occurred to me that I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I thought I could just type "steam" and launch the game from the library, but I guess not, since the command prompt was just waiting for my next command rather than waiting fo...

Cities: Skylines won't start

Anyone here play Cities: Skylines? I have Mint 18 Cinnamon x64, just updated my Nvidia drivers when an update appeared in update manager last night, and now the game won't start. It just crashes Cinnamon (when this happens, the cursor for the game appears but nothing else except a message saying Cin...

Re: Mouse lag

Oddly enough I don't recall having had the lag appear in a while. I wonder if an update fixed the issue?

Anyone? This is a really annoying issue and could affect usability if I ever want to game on this system (which is WAS designed for).

Mouse lag

For some reason I ocassionally have heavy mouse lag on my computer, with the mouse being very slow and jerky, ocassionally failing to register clicks as well. I can hear the computer's fan briefly spin when this occurs. Any idea what's causing it? It makes working quite difficult. The only proprieta...

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”

Is it normal for the install to sit for many minutes after the screen with the checkbox to install third party software? I checked the box, created the password, pressed "Continue", and now I've been stuck with the spinning cursor for over 10-20 minutes.

Hope the Nvidia issue isn't too severe; my new computer has a Nvidia card! Guess I'll find out shortly.

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”

Do you intend to run the beta for the entire life of your computer? As I said, I don't trust OS upgrades (after a VERY bad experience with Ubuntu 10.10 that resulted in my keyboard and mouse becoming unuseable and having to reinstall 9.10 from disk; fortunately, there was nothing important on that c...

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”

Personally, I don't feel like installing something, moving all files over, setting up Apache/PHP/MySQL, installing applications, etc. and then doing the same thing all over again a week or two later (I imagine moving off the beta would be more like moving from 17 to 17.1 than just running a package ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”

I suppose a better question for Dupo to have asked is if there are any estimates. I know I've been waiting with baited breath; my website's been down a whole week now since I stopped trusting that computer to not be a fire hazard (not that the Windows laptop I'm using in the interim is much better; ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”

I can run a lot of day to day stuff off my Windows 7 laptop, but that does NOT solve the problem of how to keep my website online. It's 13 GB in size - way too large for any USB stick I own, so I can't even transfer it to Windows temporarily (my external hard drives use Linux formatting to preserve ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 codenamed “Sarah”

I REALLY hope the final version comes out soon. I'm waiting to set up my new computer as I don't want to set it up twice, but my current computer is dying and operating on borrowed time, and getting worse and worse (used to be the problem was at least confined to the power supply fan... now it's spr...

Buying Small Second Monitor

I'm trying to get a second monitor for my new computer (which has a GTX 950 video card with DVI, HDMI, and Display Port outputs; will need to get a VGA adapter for my existing monitor), but I'm having a hard time finding one that will fit my cramped desk. I barely have enough room on the desk for bo...

Re: Hardware Advice for Next Computer

Current plan is to go with the Limbo 560 with the 6500 processor, 8 GB RAM, CD-RW/DVD-RW drive, Nvidia GTX 950 (which I believe is supported by the current driver and should work with Mint 18; correct me if I'm wrong), and a 550 watt PSU. Sound good? I actually got the idea that, with a longer HDMI ...

Re: Hardware Advice for Next Computer

I assume I'd also need to increase the size of the power supply for the card? NewEgg's calculator suggested 500 something watts.
