Re: VirtualBox and (not) reading disks and disk images [Solv

Its been a looooooooong time since I worked with Windows 3.1(1). If I remember right, there were something like 23 floppies to install windows, wasn't there? Windows worked like a giant shell program if I remember right. I don't think you could install it directly, I think you needed to install DOS ...

Re: "Problem" shutting down Mint 14(and 13)

By design, they do this. It makes it easier for you to continue from where you were, if for instance, you have a power failure. I'll actually use that feature sometimes, if I'm following trouble shooting instructions and need to reboot. By not closing the browser, when I start it back up, it brings ...

Re: IP: 91.189.92.202 80 NOT WORKING STILL!!!!

One other option to try (although the reason I use distros is so I don't have to do this) is search out the apprpriate source code for the packages you need, then build them on your own system and install them that way.

Re: Multiple Task Bars in Cinamon?

Actually, I lied to you guys. When I selected Classic (I did restart Cinamon by logging out and back in, I thank you for the quicker method), the task bar I had along the bottom moved to the top. A new empty task bar appeared at the bottom. When I try to add something to that task bar, my only choic...

Re: How do I kill X Server on Mint 14 to install Nvidia driv

Don't panic. I'm not an expert, but I'll try to help you as best I can. During the installation (and I did it as you told me), I was told that it wouldn't be possible to install the driver with something called Nouveau active, so I followed the instructions to disable that. After that, the installat...

Well, I don't think I'm going to be of much more use to you. What I already described is about the extent of my tricks for Virtualbox. I assume that after adding yourself to those other groups, you logged out and then back in. The new groups won't take affect untill you do so. Just one other thing I...

Re: Multiple Task Bars in Cinamon?

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it once before and just tried it again after you suggested it. Although the panel layout says Classic (panels at the top and at the bottom) all it does for me is move my panel from the bottom to the top, it doesn't add a second one.

Multiple Task Bars in Cinamon?

Does Cinamon support multiple taskbars? If so, can someone tell me how to set it up? I'd kinda like to have one along the top and one along the bottom, sorta like gnome.

Just installed Mint 14, Cinamon.
Thanks

Re: VirtualBox and (not) reading disks and disk images

I just installed Mint 14 Cinamon, amd_64; so I don't know if it will act the same as the 32 bit version. I haven't had a 32 bit processor or a floppy drive for a long time. I've never tried using a floppy with VirtualBox. I'd begin by making sure you are a member of the vboxusers group. Although it ...

Re: How do I kill X Server on Mint 14 to install Nvidia driv

X is the graphical environment. It consists of a server and a client. It is exactly opposite of what you would normally consider the server/client relationship to be. In this case, the server is on the machine you are using, generating the graphical display you see. The client, is the program sendin...

Re: eth0 connection cyles on/off after upgrade to Mint 14 Ma

I gave up and did a fresh install, and everything is fine now.
I thought I read on Mint's site, that they recomend to NOT do an upgrade. If you want to go to a new version they recomend always doing a fresh install.

Re: Suddenly, Cable Unplugged ?

Ok, the problem seems to be fixed. I read somewhere that Windows driver shuts down the Realtek NIC when Windows boots down and r8169 module is not able to detect this Personally, I wouldn't put much stock in that. When you reboot, the process of "rebooting" sends a "clear" signal, so to speak, thro...

Re: Connection failed. Mint 14.1 Cinnamon 64 Bit

I'm not real good with wireless networking at the command line. If I need wireless, I usually leave it upto networkmanager. So I'll assume that you've built the correct module for your card. In Linix, from the command line, if you run the command -> sudo lspci It should give you a listing of all the...

Re: Problems with Ethernet network connection

From what you've posted, to me it looks like the eth0 port is not up. I don't know if you're looking for a temporary fix or a permanent one, so I'll give you both: temporary sudo ifconfig eth0 up sudo dhclient eth0 This will bring "up" eth0, dhclient will request an IP address from your server; you ...

ATI RS880 HDMI Audio No Audio Output (Closed not Solved)

Found the fix here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/67113/fast-video-playback-with-no-sound. Worked for me. When I mentioned earlier that didn't work for me, I forgot to run update-grub. On my partition for Ubuntu 12.04, went back and did that, now audio comes over the Radeon HDMI port. Mint 14 - no...

Re: ATI RS880 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 4200 Series] No Audio Ou

I hadn't heard that this chipset was no longer supported, that's interesting. When I downloaded and installed the latest driver from AMD's support site (they say its still a beta) it reported back to me, that no hardware was found. So maybe you're right, the support is no longer there. Previous, I d...

Re: can't connect to wired broadband internet mint 13 cinnam

Regarding the 2 default gateways. I guess if its working for you fine; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". But the purpose of a default gateway, is when every other direction doesn't work -> always go in this direction. Now if you have 2 always go in this directions, the problem becomes which one of ...
