Re: Kernel update

I have the very same question. I am running 4.4.0-53 generic, with no problems at all,... just tonight though a firmware update popped up along side of the kernel update to 4.4.0-62, that kernel update has been there since I installed this system 4 months ago. I have had no problems with 4.4.0-53, s...

Java Home and setting PATH

I downloaded and installed into my home directory android-studio. The directions said to cd to the directory and run ./studio.sh I get this error: 'tools.jar' seems to be not in Studio classpath. Please ensure JAVA_HOME points to JDK rather than JRE. I found where my Java is installed but don't know...

Re: Desktop Gui No Longer Loading After Software Update

Just my opinion but I would just go ahead and update to 17.1. It is a stable OS, not buggy at all. You will probably find newer features you are happy with anyway as a plus. It is also a LTS release which mean you won't need to worry about it for a long time.

Re: need help with old gpg secret key in a new OS

Cosmo, Thank you very much for that explanation. They should have let you write the manual. One of the first things they tell you to do is to publish the key to any key server! Even before they tell you to create a revoke key and to not lose your secret key. I'm not usually the criticism kind of per...

Re: need help with old gpg secret key in a new OS

xenopeek , I come to the conclusion that the secret key was over written somehow and gone. I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to help me. I have but one more question. Being that I can no longer do anything at all to this published public key, does this in anyway jeopardize my securi...

Re: need help with old gpg secret key in a new OS

What if I certify the public key that I'm not locating secret key for with my new key? Will that allow me to use the file?

xenopeek Man I thought that would work. But it returns this output: gpg: enabled debug flags: memstat gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found. gpg: Total number processed: 0 random usage: poolsize=600 mixed=0 polls=0/0 added=0/0 outmix=0 getlvl1=0/0 getlvl2=0/0 secmem usage: 0/32768 bytes in 0 blocks I'm s...

need help with old gpg secret key in a new OS

I had previously created a key pair, made back ups and put them on a usb stick. Did not know about first creating a revoke key. Now I know. Since the first key pair I created, and published the public key... I had problems with my OS and wiped the drive clean and reinstalled LM17KDE. I then foolishl...

Re: Startup Volume - Mint 17.1

That Pulse Audio killed my system. 17.1 froze everything. Tried to reinstall LM17.1 but after it installs it wont let me install the new mint update that lets you convert to 17.1, going to try to burn a newer disk, to see if that heps. Never had a sound update do this to me, I'm just glad I install ...

Re: SSD tweaks needed on Linux Mint 17?

Thank you Pat for that info. Yes I have the Samsung 120 GiB drive, so I don't have to do anything? If thats the case than I can put my fstab file back to its original form without the discard option, right?

Re: SSD tweaks needed on Linux Mint 17?

xenopeek, I hate to be a pain but will I have to move a tmpfs directory to my HDD drive or is one not nessesary at all for the OS to operate? In other words in my fstab file it has sdb1 ext4 discard, errors=remount -ro 0 1 Am I correct to assume that I would need to add a line under that of your code...

Re: Virtualbox and Mac OSX

Thank You for that clear answer. I'm going to do a little surfing and see what I find. Judging from your response , it sounds like it is in fact possible. Without getting into any more specifics that will get you or I in trouble... for the life of me I don't understand how they can charge money for ...

Virtualbox and Mac OSX

I have Virtualbox working. It lets me create new virtual machines but when I put in my Snow Leopard disk That is bought and paid for, its not a bootleg, It will not install onto the virtual Drive I created. Is there a trick or some sort of specific setting in VB to get Snow Leo to run in VB? I would...

SSD tweaks needed on Linux Mint 17?

I upgraded my system from 16 to 17. My original 16 install had my / on my SSD drive meaning my OS only, I had /Home and /Swap on a HDD drive. The install went fine all my home files and more importantly all my settings are still there, LM17 is running fine. My question is I can't remember if I have ...

Re: problems with install of ssd and hdd hybrid install

Thanks gold_finger I will definitely bookmark all the links given here on this thread. mintybits was correct, my alignment was off. I also took his advice and kept it simple no separate boot partition, just a plain / mount point on my SSD and a /Home point that point to my HDD, for future LM install...

Re: problems with install of ssd and hdd hybrid install

Oohh yes I did!... I re-partitioned 1 more time. If at first you don't succeed try, try again.. At least now I know that when a new version of LM comes out I won't lose my /Home folder files. I can just reinstall onto the SSD drive the OS, and point it to the /Home folder on my HDD dri...

Re: problems with install of ssd and hdd hybrid install

mintybits Please don't interpret what I am saying on the wrong foot. I f I read one thing in common on all fronts through my research it was proper disk alignment. So I agree with you whole heartedly. I understood it wrong is what I did..I thought as long as it listed 512 byte sectors I was alright,...
