Re: 20.3 Upgrade I will wait on.
Think of it as rush hour, except that there won't be a new one for six more months. In other words, if you have the patience to wait for another day or two, you won't be stuck in a gridlock, but rather gonna be cruising along unobstructed motorways/freeways/highways at your car's maximum speed. And ...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?
The thing that keeps me from doing that is it has a Retina screen, and I need fractional scaling to work in Linux so that I can really see the screen well. My new laptop has a 14-inch 1080p screen, so while I don't need fractional scaling, it will be a nice bonus once it works well in Mint. For now...

Sue me, that shot of Venice's main canal is great, cliché or not. And I so love the Mint-Y GTK theme and the Mint-X icon one.
The OS is Linux Mint 20.3 Una Xfce.

Re: Linux Mint signs a partnership with Mozilla
To me it simplifies things since setting things up looked the same in Mint as in Xubuntu and Windows. I also especially liked only installing the dictionaries I need instead of 10 different English, French and Spanish varieties I don't need. Respectively. Now the few ones I do use don't disappear am...

Also I wish Apple would port iTunes to Linux, I would be in hog heaven if they did that. It cannot be that hard since it is built on a Unix framework.... I think they split iTunes up in OS X... It's still one program in Windows, however. When it comes to podcast feeds, yes, the iTunes ones work bet...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?
I think the "back to Windows" is the cohort that IS computer savvy and is trying to do "Windows things" that linux simply can't do or that linux does something differently which to them means not as well. I believe this to be spot on. People who get along well with Linux are eit...

He mostly emphasizes Windows-like end-user experience, polish, prettiness, GUI intuitiveness, fonts, colors, icons etc. and he is very picky and a perfectionist. In that case he should completely abhor Windows 10, especially its dark theme, which looks downright amateurish and it's a toss-up whethe...

Re: Windows comedy hour
I tried Windows 10 once, and it refused to let me install a couple of my old games. Sure, old software and new operating systems stop liking each other after a while, so I wasn't too surprised really. It's just ironic that all my other games from around the turn of the millennium ran just fine, the ...

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?
I voted "yes", it's the office suite I use when I need one and I would most likely have installed it even if it weren't there in Mint from the beginning. In reality I only use it a few times a year, but the frequency doesn't really matter since having access to at the very least a word pro...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?
I had been using Ubuntu for quite a long time, but when they made the switch to Unity I absolutely hated it, and even if it got more polished after a while I still didn't like it. It didn't exactly help that my laptop was a MacBook Pro and that I had a similar but much less cluttered desktop environ...

Re: Hej from Sweden!
The average Scandinavian making their way here is comfortable using English, yes, but not all people from Scandinavia trying Mint. I also think that we should get a pan-Scandinavian one, and preferably linuxmint.dk, linuxmint.no and linuxmint.se all would redirect to it. Maybe linuxmint.fo and linux...

Re: Hej from Sweden!
Thank you :) But to be honest, the difference between written Swedish and written Danish and written Norwegian is like the difference between American (Swedish), British (Danish) and Australian (Norwegian) English to me. When you look at the vocab that is, when you look at the orthography the differ...

Hej from Sweden!
Hej! As you can see I'm Swedish, and I tried to register at the Swedish forum first, but I guess the admin there isn't very active :? I come from Ubuntu like many other people; I never really became friends with Unity and a friend told me about Mint and MATE, so I thought I should test it and got ho...

Re: What is Ubuntu Doing to drive them here?
That's the thing, Ubuntu used to be "Linux for ordinary people" so using dconf just to remove a couple of things from the launcher? nah, that's not for ordinary people, that's for advanced users. About the "filter results" never saw that  Still, for the beginner it should b...

Re: What is Ubuntu Doing to drive them here?
I don't like Unity, it's as simple as that. It's a lot better than in the beginning though, the main problem I have with it in 12.10 is that when you look for programmes they are still sorted by name rather than category, and that all the things you find in the system settings are also among the ins...

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away
I don't understand why they couldn't just have made an additional interface for phones and tablets instead of forcing desktop users to use it too. Sure, it would probably have taken a few more resources, but seeing how many different editions with different desktop environments they already have it'...
