Re: x470 Gaming Pro crashes

What went wrong when you played with the driver last time? ~(If you can bear to relate the experience without crying) It was just a case of stumbling around in the dark without the slightest idea of what i'm doing or where i'm going. Pretty much my standard approach to working with computers, but s...

Re: x470 Gaming Pro crashes

I'm not sure about the system 'bedding in' though. It shouldn't need to do 500 miles at low revs before being able to go on the motorway :) No need to hang a "Running in please pass" sign on my computer then  I haven't overclocked the system and the graphics driver I am using is the one recomm...

Re: x470 Gaming Pro crashes

Cheers for the info. The increase to the amount of disc space being full was down to Timeshift. I forgot that when I reinstalled Mint I did not set Timeshift to save the backups to my second HDD. I have it set up correctly now and the used space is back to the level it was at. I checked the SMART st...

Re: x470 Gaming Pro crashes

Thanks for the ideas, it's much appreciated. The 75 C was the temp of the cpu. Since then I went into BIOS and set all the fans to max, the temp dropped to 35 C but Blender and Mint still crashed when under a heavy volumetrics load, in eevee i had the tile size set to 2 and the samples set to 120. T...

Re: x470 Gaming Pro crashes

Thanks for the info. All the fans are working, cpu, gpu and three system fans. I checked on the Nvidia x server settings and can see from the readout that the fan speed increase with the rise in temperature. I also took the side panel off and had a look to see how the fans were responding. I set Ble...

Re: x470 Gaming Pro crashes

Thanks for the info guys it's much appreciated.. I tried to find the output of dmesg in the var/log but there is no sign of it there. I also tried starting Blender from the terminal but when Blender crashes it takes the terminal and Mint with it so no luck finding the cause of the problem that way.....

x470 Gaming Pro crashes

I recently upgraded my mother board to an MSI X470 Gaming Pro, I also added a AMD Ryzen 2600 six core and 16GB of DDR4 Ram, I am still using the graphics card I had in the old system which is a Nivida GTX 970. The reason for the upgrade is to make Blender run faster when using simulations and for vo...

Re: Some Blender shortcuts doesn't work with Cinnamon

I had the same problem when I started to use Blender 2.8 and left click for select. I'm using the Mate desktop Linux Mint 19.2 but this fix may well work for Cinnamon. Click on Menu, All Applications then Windows. In the Window Preferences click on Behaviour and then change the movement key from Alt...

Re: How to Install Blender 2.80?

The way I always do it is to move the downloaded Blender file from my downloads folder, I usually move it to a folder I created called Otherapps, but it can go anywhere you want. Then right click on the Blender file, from the menu that appears click on "Extract Here." Once all the files have been ex...

Re: VOTE ! Mint-Y-LOGO... A New Version Of The Linux Mint Logo !

I think the new version looks okay, but I also think it's a better look if done in the way MadmanRB has it. The joined up letters preserves the old look of the logo, but there is a new look to it with the shape of the leaf. Edit: Just noticed how late I am to this thread. I really should pay more at...

Currently downloading the new kernal at 14.2KB/s, it's usually about 500KB/s. Painfully slow.

Cheers, linux kiwi, it's much appreciated. I like shiny too :D

Thanks, catweazel. Constructive comments are always welcome. It's quite an old render now this one, getting on for five years ago. Could be time for something new me thinks.

Re: Blender bugs

Got problems here too on Mint 19 Cinnamon with Blender 2.79b. The blender version is from Synaptic Package Manager. The node Wrangler addon is not working and there is no option to change the Cycles Compute Device in the user preferences to GPU Rendering. I checked to see if CUDA was installed on th...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't update installed kernel.

Thanks for the extra info. I have removed all of the old kernels and am keeping the two which you suggested. Getting ride of the old kernels cleared up a fair bit of space on the hdd and the 4.13.0-31 kernel appears to be working fine on both my Mint installs. btw I was going to add solved to this p...

Re: Can't update installed kernel.

Thank you, fabien85, updating grub solved the problem. I ran the sudo update-grub command then rebooted, i did check the advance menu to see if anything had change and the 4.13 kernels were present. Rather than select the latest one via the grub menu i decided to see if the update manger would now s...

[SOLVED] Can't update installed kernel.

Hi all. I have two Mint installs on my machine. Mate 18.3 is my main OS, it is on it's own ssd. I also have Cinnamon 18.3 installed on a separate HDD, it shares this drive with an old copy of windows vista. It is Cinnamon that I can't update the kernel for. I have the kernels 4.13.0-25 and 4.13.0-31...

Not sure if this will work with Cinnamon as I am using Mate 18.3 but it might be worth a try. There is a link to the theme in the second post http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13728

Re: Thunderbird email download problem.

Thanks, catweazel for the info. Since I posted this thread the problem has gone away. Not sure why as the only thing I did was to play around with the default for my email addresses, but straight after that I no longer got the popup warning. Not sure if it was coincidence or something else. I will u...
