Re: Perixx PERIMICE-517 Wired Ergonomic Trackball Mouse- solved.

Hi

Although solved, I thought I would add this. It turns out that USB to PS2 adapter was faulty. It still won't work with my new mouse, but at least I can use it for my keyboard, freeing up a USB port.

Anyway, thanks for your help and advice.

Re: Perixx PERIMICE-517 Wired Ergonomic Trackball Mouse- solved.

Hi
Thanks for your help.
The mouse works, but I have had to sacrifice a USB port- it won't work using a PS2 adapter.
I've had to sacrifice my webcam, which I hardly ever use anyway, since I would otherwise not have enough USB ports.

Thanks again

Hi
Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

Perixx PERIMICE-517 Wired Ergonomic Trackball Mouse- solved.

Hi, all I've just taken delivery of my shiny new computer! Unfortunately, I didn't realise that it had no expansion slot, apart from the one for the graphics card. Therefore, I can't use my extra USB ports, which used to be plugged into a PCI slot.. I have got used to having a trackball mouse with a...

Re: How do I write Spanish in Linux Mint 19.1?

Hi, all.
Rene, I stand corrected. I was assuming that the OP was using a US keyboard, and trying to type in Spanish using it.

Re: How do I write Spanish in Linux Mint 19.1?

Hi
If you prefer (for example if you're writing in English but with some Spanish) you can go to preferences, keyboard and choose US international with dead keys. This will allow you to write in both languages, without changing keyboard layouts.
Hope this helps

Re: K3b not detecting disc

Hi

Many thanks for the replies.
I guess I've wasted my money on these discs, in that case.

I guess I'll have to buy some bluray discs instead.

I'll mark this as solved. Thanks for all your help.

Re: K3b not detecting disc

Hi Thank you, again, for taking the trouble to reply. I only have DVDRW discs (apart from the DVD+R dual-layer discs). So I tried one of those and got the following: xorriso -outdev /dev/sr1 -list_profiles out -toc xorriso 1.4.8 : RockRidge filesystem manipulator, libburnia project. Drive current: -...

Re: K3b not detecting disc

Hi So, I tried what you described, although the drive is sold as being capable of burning DVD+R discs. The output was as follows: xorriso : NOTE : Disc status unsuitable for writing Drive current: -outdev '/dev/sr1' Media current: is not recognizable Media status : is not recognizable libburn : SORR...

Re: K3b not detecting disc

Hi all I wanted to be very thorough and make sure I tried everything suggested here and in the links suggested, too. I've spent a lot of time trying everything suggested. I also tried xfburn, just to make sure that I had tried every possibility. I don't know if I've missed a step, although I don't t...

Re: K3b not detecting disc

Hi
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. My drive is as follows: Optical-2: /dev/sr1 vendor: PIONEER model: BD-RW BDR-209D rev: 1.51
dev-links: N/A .

According to the blurb on Amazon, it burns dual-layer discs.

Re: K3b not detecting disc

Hi 'Thank you, for pointing out my mistake! I've tried K3b on the advice and recommendation of others in this forum. I tried Brasero (although I've been warned against using it on this forum, at least for dual-layer discs). It seems to detect the disc, but says replace it with a supported disc. Rega...

Re: Faster than Mint?

Hi

For what it's worth, you might like to try Antix, which is specifically designed to run on older hardware. You can try it as a live distro, just like Mint.

Re: Bluray drive problem- solved, and thank you.

Hi The software is simply called AQA with the suffix of the year. Unfortunately, examination boards in Britain are a bit like tax offices- they are never wrong... I appreciate the suggestions you made, but I'm afraid I'm stuck with their software, as they won't allow people to use anything else. Als...

Re: Bluray drive problem- solved, and thank you.

Hi, Phd21 and others The exam board is AQA, based in the UK. They won't allow markers to use any software other than theirs. In any case, I prefer to use my Linux computer for fun stuff and keep my office area for work. I don't like the idea of bringing work into my living room.I have always used Br...

Re: Bluray drive problem- solved, and thank you.

Hi all First, I used the same cables, but simply swapped them over. Yes, both are SATA drives. Secondly, for GCSE exams, I actually don't see the papers, but a screenshot of them in the software I download from the exam board. I use this software to create text boxes and type how I have arrived at t...
