Screen Position

Aloha,
Do you have the resolution and frequency set the same on both? That could definitely affect. Other than making them both the same though, I wouldn't know.

A New Member

Aloha, I was approached while at Borders in the Computers and Technologies section by a gentlemen asking about Linux. I told him about Mint and suggested he download and give it a spin. Hopefully he will join the community and post here as well. Why tell you all this? Well, I would like to make some...

Amarok and iPod

Aloha,
I use Amarok extensively with my iPod mini with no issues. I have everything in .mp3 format and it lets me do playlists and add or remove songs.

MintDocumentation

Aloha, How about an introduction like, "MintDocumentation. A fresh, community-based approach to sharing knowledge and information about Linux and specifically Mint Linux." Not sure of how we want to present Mint Linux. That would be Clem or someone else's call. As for a project, I certainly can do s...

Mint on a slower machine

Aloha, I just fixed a freind up by installing Linux Mint on his AMD 800 Mhz machine with 256 megs of ram and a 128 meg nVidia card. The LiveCD does take a few to load and get ready but once installed it took off like a rocket and worked fine. Only issue I had was making the mistake of trying to set ...

Distrowatch

Aloha, Mint is now 16. Beating out Freespire. It is simple to understand why. Well done Operating System which meets the users needs. That is where it's at. As much as it may sound bizarre, windows does exactly that. Of course it is a trade off. You have to deal with the security and virus issues. B...

Awesome

Aloha, It is awesome that it worked. I am glad it resolved for you. When I started out I actually did two partitions for myself. Back then I was using Fedora Core 4. I loaded it on both partitions and shared the swap and a small partition for a text document on what I did to get things to work. That...

Mounting

The UUID= at the beggining confuses me. Maybe you should eliminate that and got with the standard /dev/sdb5 /mount/shared_drive etc... instead of having the UUID. That UUID may be there to identify the drive and since you have changed it since, it don't recognize it anymore? So something like this m...

Telent and such

Aloha, In Linux you can use telnet still. Secure Shell or ssh might be more secure. A batch file in Linux is known as a bash script. Use any editor, type in the commands you wish to execute, then change the file permission to executable. Now when you click it, it will run. Please note you may not ge...

FAT32

Aloha, Ok looking it over I can see nothing myself that looks like it is out of order. I am not a linux guru though. Did you do a mount -a to reread the fstab and remount everything or reboot? As for permissions to read/write umask sets that, and you have it at 000 which is allowing read/write acces...
