Hello pbear, your right should have told him to hit either shift key (if using Bios) or Esc key (if using UEFI) right after bios screen appears. The command is enter in the terminal and it will output an overview of your hardware and system.
So in a terminal enter

I use ext4 and 40 Gb / partition 4 GB swap and rest for /home. Seems to work well for my laptop and gives enough room for suspend and hibernate.

No, you only need one, The regular one works fine for me. The Flatpak is a self contained version that should need no local Libs to run. but may be a bit slower, just my observation.
