Re: Can't install LM on DELL Precision 5820 tower

That card should be supported so I not sure why nomodset does not work. I think there must be something else in play on that machine. That machine has been certified by Ubuntu for 16.04 , Which Mint is based upon, but it is only certified with it's original equipment. So if you've change the Hardwar...

Re: Wireless is not working

You might have to sudo apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source in the new 4.4 kernel but I am not sure if dkms will install automatically to an older kernel when installed. For kernels 4.13-4.15 you will likely need to download from https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/bcmwl-kernel-source You...

Re: New to Linux Please help

At this point since this is not a Linux Mint Program and is installed outside of Mint you may need to seek help from redmine itself. they have a help option here, not sure if it a paid option or not. Good luck. https://www.easyredmine.com/redmine-services/redmine-support?utm_campaign=usa-local-all-g...

Re: Kernels confusion

I can understand why there is confusion about the Kernels. Briefly Mint Uses Ubuntu modified kernels and Ubuntu does not go by Kernel.org LTS system. It supports it's own LTS kernels. Thus currently Ubuntu LTS kernels are 4.4 series. Here a page that explains it further https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kerne...

Re: Installed the Nvidia proprietary driver and did a reboot but still using the nouveau driver

you should be able to run the Nvidia 390 - but you may have to blacklist or uninstall nouveau driver before it will be loaded. Nvidia and nouveau are not compatible to be run at the same time. When installing via the driver manager it automatically blacklists nouveau for you. to blacklist do this : ...

Re: Wireless is not working

It's because the wireless card you have won't build against 4.13 mos likely won't on 4.14 either 4.4 is an Ubuntu lts kernel and will be support for a long time yet. give it a try. the highest kernel in Mint is 4.13 - Mint and Ubuntu don't use the same kernel numbering system as Kernel.org. Ubuntu m...
