Hello CaseyMarie, I would say that if you already have 8 Gbs of ram you won't see a great increase in performance from adding more. Only time you would is if your doing heavy game or graphics stuff like editing videos. You would do better by adding a SSD HD. I wouldn't think that more ram would help...

you can change the default browser in thunderbird, by going to edit>prefernces>advanced click on config editor button. It will warn you to be careful. click ok when the editor comes up copy and paste this line Into the search bar. network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http Two lines should come up....

Without knowing your exact wireless card. It's hard to know what you need to do.

I tried subtitle workshop and it seems to work in wine.
If you are not familiar with wine you may also want to install Playonlinux it a GUI frontend for wine.
