Re: $200 Laptop @ Best Buy - Will it work with Mint??

If I were to get a refurbished Lenovo t430 or such I'd get it through new egg here: https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductL ... isNodeId=1

Re: $200 Laptop @ Best Buy - Will it work with Mint??

The 330 works with Ubuntu 18.04 Thus should work with Mint 19 - only problem area that I've seen on line is the touch pad not being detected and working. but this thread is purported to fix that situation. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1049787/lenovo-ideapad-330-touchpad-not-working/ though I have...

Re: Dropbox - flatpak or software manager

The difference is that the Flatpak will be a much bigger file as it contains all the dependencies needed by dropbox to run. Given your signature says you have only a 60gb drive. I'd opt for the software manager one. Good luck.

Re: Flatpaks v Snaps v Repos

Here is a page that tells you some of the differences in the package format. https://www.fossmint.com/flatpak-appimage-and-snap-how-do-they-stack/ I like the appimage myself. The great advantage of these new systems is it allow a developer to do his work once for all linux distributions instead of h...

Re: No network controller?

Ok, I was under the impression that the problem was with your Ethernet card. Intell wireless cards are usually well supported in the kernel and need no additional drivers. How ever they sometimes do need to be adjusted. Power save turned off etc. next we need to know exactly which intel card it is t...

Re: No network controller?

It would be of help if you know exactly which realtek network card you have installed in that system.
It could be a bad card.
If it were me I'd try a usb external card see if that will work.

Re: Changing Grub Default Boot

Hi, What I suspect happened is that grub did not get installed properly in your cinnamon install and the grub you are using is the old LMDE grub and if that is the case you will have to make the changes in the lmde grub not the new cinnamon grub. I may be wrong but that's what it sounds like has hap...

Re: Slow/sluggish MATE

Sorry to hear that, I can't believe that windows 10 would run faster on that machine. It did not on my Ideapad. Linux ran circles around it. Maybe a lighter Desktop like XFCE would work better. I will say others have complianed about the 110 model not being particularly good for linux. But can't spe...

Re: No network controller?

try this download the driver from here you want r8168-dkms.
you'll have to download on another machine and put it on usb stick or disc. what ever your machine will accept. right click on the file and select open with gedbi. install the driver, reboot see if network is working.
