the dongle will most likely work. But if you want to try to get the internal card working go to a terminal and enter this command and post the output here.

Hello robluck and welcome to Linux Mint Forums,

Can you connect that machine via Ethernet cable? if you can go to Administration then Driver Manager and install any driver for that card you find.

Hi,

Under preferred application there should be an item in the drop down menu other application if you correctly created the .desktop file your FF version should show up there.

Hi, The 5 partitions are normal you must be booting in legacy mode as that mode only allows 4 primary partition and then uses one of those primary partition as an extended partition to add others. As to the freezes they can be caused by many things. But often it's the video/graphic card and driver. ...

I would venture to say that your freezes are the result of your graphics card Nividia and Nouveau driver. either set the nouveau to nomodeset or install the correct nvidia driver for you card by going to Menu> Administration> driver manager. It looks like you have a bad ppa. Go to menu, Administration , software sources and then to other tab. uncheck all your ppa's and try sudo apt update again. if that works. try the upgrade manager again. if software Sources will not open from menu go to a terminal and type pkexec mintsources post any...

4 GB ram should be plenty for mate. so it's most likely not that that's causing you problems post what karlchen has asked for so we can help.
