Re: Unable to Remove File

Hello SueS and Welcome to Linux Mint Forums,

Right click on the file go to properties and then permissions who does it say owns the file and does the user have permission to edit the file.
you can also go to the desktop folder in your home partition and delete it from there.

Re: SANE Error: Failed to open device. Error during device I/O

I don't know that I have the answer, but I would install hplip-gui sudo apt install hplip-gui and then open the hp tool box and reinstall the printer from there see if it works then. If this is a networked printer set it /them to fixed ip addresses outside the normal range so they don't receive any ...

Re: How to insert a program in the main list programs?

I don't have XFCE or Cinnamon installed at the moment but if I remember right there is a menu editor in either settings or System that you can use to add entries to the menu. you may be able to right click on the menu Icon also and select edit. Then just select the category, say office and add the c...

Re: How to insert a program in the main list programs?

Well, I download the "master-pdf-editor-4.3.61_qt4.amd64.tar.gz", extract the file i my home and launched the program, because there is not any .deb file, only .tar.gz .deb file is at the location I posted earlier. It will be easier if you down load that file and install it. if you want t...

Re: Wifi only available after restarting computer

Ok it seems it may be a firmware problem. See this ask Ubuntu thread look at Chilli555's suggestion. https://askubuntu.com/questions/860331/wifi-stopped-working-16-10/860336
The problem sounds very similar to yours and it's the same wireless card.

Re: Support for .wdp files

Hi wf54, I sorry to say I can't find anything that would open .wdp files in linux or Mac as far as that's concerned. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to convert them to another format that is accessible across OS's. But as far as I can see you'll have to do that on a windows machine. or in Virt...

Re: Claws3.9.3 No emails

You'll need to give a bit more info for us to help. What authentication does you e-mail provider use? I would try this in thunderbird go to your /home folder enable show hidden files under view. and search for the file .thunderbird then rename it .thunderbird-bak then go an exicute thunderbird and i...

Re: How to insert a program in the main list programs?

first how did you install masterpdf? you should download the .deb file from here: https://code-industry.net/free-pdf-editor/#get and install it with gdebi and it will show in the main menu under office and allow right click dialogue. You can create a link to your menu by going to settings menu edito...

Re: if i use "sudo apt-get install kdenlive" will i get the latest version?

The reason they are most likely recommending the appimage until ubuntu 18.04 /Mint 19.x is because it requires dependencies that may not be available in 16.04.x /Mint 18.x so I would download and use the appimage they work great in mint.

If there were plans to stop putting out Xfce editions, this forum probably would be on fire. BTW, I have no idea what thumbnail you're talking about. Everything there looks the same to me. it really does not matter what you use it's not the download that is the problem it's when you veiw the file. You can set most down loaders to not open files automatically. Best advise don't put such files on your HD. download to a virtual partition or folder. or to a firejail environment. https://f...

Hello diabolikos and Welcome to the Mint forums, If that machine has the original amount of ram I'm not sure any version of mint will work well. If you can get the ram up to say 2 gbs. it would help a lot then I would recommend XFCE version. But as others have said another distro may be more appropr...

as it begins to boot us hit the esc key repeatedly and when the grub menu comes up hit e to edit it. The look for the line of code that ends in "quite Splash" place the boot parameter after quiet splash. if that does not work do it again and and delete "quiet splash" and then add...

Re: Mint stops loading on mint logo

If in fact you did the upgrade and the kernel was upgraded you should be able to boot to the old kernel and it should work. You'll need to hit the esc key just as grub is coming up to get to the grub menu - and then select the old kernel and boot from that, once it boots go to update manager and cli...
