Re: I'm about to quit Linux

I think every Linux user has gone through these kinds of problems, especially with laptops. I know I have attempted and later abandoned Linux many times in the past, and only now do I think that distros such as Mint are becoming mature enough to use as a main OS. Hopefully there will be more hardwar...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

When I installed the Nvidia proprietary drivers for my GT 545, I'm pretty sure that I just installed the package(s) from the Software Manager, and everything has worked fine for me. Is that bad? I'm a little new to Linux graphics drivers. :?

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

As a relative newcomer to Mint, I definitely agree with this. I thought something was a little weird with my desktop, but I didn't notice the issue until I stumbled upon this thread. There's no reason not to fix this!

Re: GetDeb and PlayDeb discontinued

So, what's next? Does anyone know of any other repositories that will serve updates to all the packages hosted by GetDeb and PlayDeb? I've been using these repo's as long as i can remember, starting with Ubuntu. But i also found out that most software provided by Getdeb and Playdeb is common availa...

Re: First distro I have tried with no issues

Welcome and yep pretty much non-issue install for me also. Tho wifi connection is a little less robust under mint then the win7 side. But everything worked out of the box. . Yeah, it did take me a little while to install the right closed-source driver, although it has gotten a lot better in recent ...

First distro I have tried with no issues

Hello, I recently installed Mint on both my laptop and desktop after running the Windows 8 Developer Preview through its usable lifespan. After many semi-failed attempts at running Ubuntu, OpenSuse, and other distros, I can say that Mint is the first distro to give me nearly no issues with installat...

Re: Linux Mint Editions –Testing for an Average User

I'm sure that the Mint devs here would greatly appreciate this info, JM Ward. In my personal experience with Linux, I've had highly varying levels of success with different hardware configurations, especially when networking is concerned. I would also say that networking configuration is an area whe...

Re: Who switched from Ubuntu to Mint?

I used Ubuntu 9.04 a couple years ago, and I generally liked it, but not enough to commit completely to Linux. Then, I recently tried 12.04, but I was relatively unhappy with the responsiveness of Unity. It's not the design that really turned me off, but the execution - I'm running a Pentium E5200 o...
