Re: Linuxmint 19 - Cinnamon: Dropbox - Can't Monitor Dropbox Folder

I believe that this command solved the issue for me: echo fs.inotify.max_user_watches=100000 | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf; sudo sysctl -p I found the suggestion on this (German) post: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=271130&p=1482944&hilit=dropbox#p1482944 ...where I found a link ...

Re: Linuxmint 19 - Cinnamon: Dropbox - Can't Monitor Dropbox Folder

Same here. Mint 19 Cinnamon. Fresh install, but took home partition over from previous 17.3 install. Dropbox initially worked, now shows icon with white x on red, and message "Dropbox 52.4.60 - Can't access Dropbox folder - Can't monitor Dropbox folder (click to fix)". Message "Can't monitor Dropbox...

Re: Keyboard and mouse uncooperative at login and onwards.

I'm not sure -- the 3.16 did it for me, so you probably have a different problem. You could go with the newest of the still recommended kernels (I'm not currently on my Mint computer, so I can't check which one that is); it probably won't break anything... But I don't know what the probabilit...

Re: Keyboard and mouse uncooperative at login and onwards.

Hi vitras, what hardware are you running your keyboard and the mouse on? And what Linux kernel do you have installed? I was having a problem with my Dell Inspiron 3847 (featuring an Intel Core i5 processor) recognizing mouse and keyboard at login; upgrading the kernel from 3.13 to 3.16 solved the pr...

Re: Printer install: Brother MFC-J870DW, scanner not working

Me thinks it's working! I guess the key was to identify the printer by IP address, and use the correct one... I did as coffee suggested and started from scratch: On my system, I used synaptics to "completely remove" brscan-skey, brscan4, mfcj870dwcupswrapper, mfcj870dwlpr, and printer-driver-ptouch....

Re: Printer install: Brother MFC-J870DW, scanner not working

No, I really don't think it's that I don't have the drivers installed; that's what I get when I run grep: gogo@gogo-Inspiron-3847 ~ $ dpkg -l | grep Brother ii brscan-skey 0.2.4-1 amd64 Brother Linux scanner S-KEY tool ii brscan4 0.4.3-1 amd64 Brother Scanner Driver ii mfcj870dwcupswrapper 3.0.0-1 i...

Re: Printer install: Brother MFC-J870DW, scanner not working

Unless I missed it appears that you still need to install the scanner driver which is separate from the printer driver. [...] Your model calls for the brscan4 driver. Well, Brother's support website says about their install tool: "The tool will install LPR, CUPSwrapper driver and scanner driver (fo...

Re: Printer install: Brother MFC-J870DW, scanner not working

Still haven't figured it out. When I run XSane from the terminal, I receive a message "Scanning for devices," and then the error "Failed to open the device 'brother4:net;dev0': Invalid argument" Any idea where I can go from here? Where do I find where XSane stores its information about available dev...

Re: [Solved] Brother MFC-J870DW

I know that this thread is a bit old by now, and am not sure that anyone is watching it still. But just in case someone is: I also have the Brother MFC-J870DW, and, using the install tool mentioned above by pdc_2, did get it to print via the wireless connection. But not to scan. Neither Simple Scan ...

[SOLVED] Printer Brother MFC-J870DW, scanner not working

Hi, I'm stuck in the installation of this wireless printer, Brother MFC-J870DW. I got it to print via the wireless connection. But my scanning applications (Simple Scan, gsca2pdf) don't seem to be able to communicate with the all-in-one printer. I'm on Mint 17.2 Cinnamon 64-bit, with this kernel: 3....

Re: inspiron 3847 unresponsive mouse at login screen

Hi msandefur03, have you tried upgrading the kernel to 3.16? I had the problem you describe after I first installed Mint 17.1 on my Inspiron 3847, but since I upgraded the kernel to 3.16, I haven't had another issue of mouse-(or keyboard-)unresponsiveness.

Re: Mouse and Keyboard Unresponsive

Well, I can now say that for me, the problem has disappeared since the upgrade to the 3.16-series kernel. I have had more than 30 boot-ups since then, and no more unresponsive mouse or keyboard on USB port. I have had a couple of times (three or so) when the monitor on the HMDI port didn't come on, ...

Re: USB Keyboard. mouse sometimes not recognized before logi

I did upgrade to the 3.16.0-28 kernel, and so far have not had any problems with the USB ports anymore. I've only booted up six times since the upgrade, so I do not yet feel absolutely confident that the kernel upgrade took care of the problem. But I think it did. For now, I'm marking the thread "SO...

Re: Mouse and Keyboard Unresponsive

Since I upgraded the kernel from the 3.13 series to the 3.16 series (3.16.0-28, to be precise), I have not had any problem with the USB ports. That's admittedly on only six boot-ups so far -- enough to be optimistic, not enough to be certain that the problem is solved. I have sometimes still had the...

Re: Mouse and Keyboard Unresponsive

I had a couple of boots without any problems, but just now the same thing that harlekin described happened again: mouse, keyboard working during the boot-up process until log-in screen, then they're off; in this case, the HDMI port was off as well. Shut down by power button, turned back on -- same t...

Re: USB Keyboard. mouse sometimes not recognized before logi

I wonder whether this is the same problem:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2231553

I'm on kernel 3.13.0-40. Update manager would allow me to upgrade to 3.16.0-28.

Is that worth a try, or do I risk too much?

Re: Mouse and Keyboard Unresponsive

I think I might have the same issue. The first time I turn my desktop on, its USB ports seem dead, and sometimes (?) the HDMI port as well; I'm at the log-in window, but can't log in. When I give it a cold Shutdown and power the system on right away again, usually (?) it comes back with everything r...

[SOLVED] USB Keyboard. mouse sometimes not recognized...

Hi, so I just installed Mint 17.1 Cinnamon (64 bit) alongside Windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron desktop, and everything seemed to be going fine -- until after I powered up the machine, hit enter at the mostly black screen with the boot options (so at this point, it did take input from the keyboard), and ...

Installing Mint 17.1 on an ASUS x205ta?

I recently bought an ASUS x205ta in the hope of replacing Windows with Mint 17.1 Cinnamon, but as I'm looking around on the web, the task now seems more daunting to me than I had thought, and I'm considering returning the machine. But perhaps I can get some good advice here? Has anyone had success s...
