Re: Linux Mint 10 reviews & thoughts

I can recommend Linux MInt 10. Worked great and had no complaints. My only issue is petty and of no consequence. I just don't like the green theme, but that issue is solved very quickly and easily. I've since replaced it, however, with LMDE, simply because I prefer the rolling release. Also, because...

Re: HP printer/paper-weight not printing

This worked for me (I have HP 1020) :

- Install hplip & hplip-gui
I use the command, but both are in synapatic : sudo apt-get install hplip hp-gui

- from the terminal : sudo hp-setp -i

Should work

Re: Is your computer on/off when your not using it?

Mine is on 24/7. However, if we suspect bad weather (power outage, lighting, etc.) it's turned off. Whenever we travel (twice a year) it's not just off, but unplugged because we're gone for weeks.

Ubuntu 10.04 is obviously very popular, so doubt many people think it sucks.

PCLOS grub doesn't play nice with other distros. I would expect the same would apply to SAM and Mandriva. On the other hand, I've noticed (thru a few years of trial and error) grub on Debian based distros (the Ubuntus, Mepis, Sidux and Mint) seem to do a much better jub of detecting other distros. I...

About my only complaint with PCLOS is the way grub handles other distros. All was fine until I did a fresh install of PCLOS 2007, after which I could only boot into PCLOS and unable to boot into Mint. Following many vain and frustrating attempts to edit grub I simply reinstalled Biance (since I'll h...

Epiphany, Galeon, and Konqueror - and Firefox are great; but they're not Opera. For us Opera "affectionidos", (there's alot of us), there's no substitute. Like most things in Linux, it boils down to personal preferences. Opera was the first Non-Windows software I installed and used. I've u...

During my two years or so use of Linux, I've managed to go through more wallpapers, themes, colors and icons then I could shake a stick at. And, it's one of my favorite things about Linux - I can make it look anyway I want. And what I want seems to change sometimes daily.
