I found same issue in my fresh Mint 16 MATE and gnubiff 2.2.15-2 from repo. There is at least one other similar report in this forum.

Seems it's the problem not of Mint 16 and even not of underlying Ubuntu 13.10. As reported here and here (duplicate), the problem first appeared in Linux kernel 3.9.0, and relates to LG notebooks only with any distro based on 3.9.0+. As a workaround, boot time parameter "i8042.dumbkbd=1" c...

i have same issue on my LG LW20 laptop keyboard was working on all previous releases of mint mate, but now on release 16 keyboard is not deteced Same notebook, same problem. I found similar problem here , but topicstarter didn't expalain what exactly he done. hadi57, did you solve the problem?

Yes, I wrote about this option in my first post, but I wanted to get the applet on second panel, not in system tray. To do it, I need to add gnubiff applet item into panel popup menu (Add to Panel dialog). It was there on Mint 10...

gnubiff, Add to panel...

I changed recently to Mint 14 MATE from old good Mint 10. Everything OK except I can't add my lovely gnubiff mail notifier to panel from "Add to panel..." context menu. I used to use second panel on the right of desktop, and I keep there a number of my frequently used programs and applets....
