Re: Major KDE Developer Says Goodbye to Ubuntu
I have another guilt-trip going on as well: At work we use Ubuntu servers. I do admit they are stable, hearty servers and are very reliable. We have a good 100% uptime most all of the time. I don't think I'd want to change the distro for the servers and the boss is luckily one of those that doesn't ...

Re: Major KDE Developer Says Goodbye to Ubuntu
Pst - try Solydk. You shouldn't have said that! LOL! Seriously, I tried it on a bootable Live USB and I actually liked it better than Mint! Don't get me wrong... I do love Mint and hope for all the best with it. But if SolydXK is such that I don't ever have to reinstall to update things or u...

Re: Can Linux be hacked with a keyloagger via a browser?
The latter situation is what I think most do to avoid detection and ensure they get your data. It more than likely wouldn't be that simple. Also it would have to be stored in the /home directory because I don't see how they could store data in any other part of the file system (except maybe /tmp/kde...

Re: Can Linux be hacked with a keyloagger via a browser?
I avoid the "dark corners of the internet" like the plague so I think I should be pretty safe in that regards. I had Firefox when I was using Windows Vista home premium and caught a trojan after updating Firefox right from Mozilla's web site - no joke! It turned me away from FF so fast it wasn't fun...

Re: Can Linux be hacked with a keyloagger via a browser?
Because you can still download malware for other OS just fine, it just won't run. But in a multi-boot PC, it can be a problem. I don't multi-boot. I'm 100% Mint. Except I do use PlayOnLinux for some things, but not for logging into sites in a web browser or anything else for that matter. Mostly for...

Re: Can Linux be hacked with a keyloagger via a browser?
Thanks for the info. I was wondering if the keylogger was installed within some hidden Java or Flash in like the browser as they mentioned updating those. I wish when they made these reports they would say what OS they are talking about because there are a ton of Android users, and Apple type OS use...

Can Linux be hacked with a keyloagger via a browser?
I don't know where to post this. I just read this on CNN tonight: http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/04/technology/security/passwords-stolen/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Apparently, some scrupulous types have been able to use keyloggers to get account information for 2 million accounts on FaceBook, GMail, Yahoo, ...

Re: Major KDE Developer Says Goodbye to Ubuntu
I manage Ubuntu web servers at work, which is why I got an Ubuntu based distro for my home laptop (I work form home) because of the similarities and the fact I can do stuff and test stuff without having to always fire up a test server in a virtual machine. If Mint moves away from Ubuntu, it means fi...

How do I reconfigure GhostScript gs?
I was reading the man pages and was going to list the devices available to ghostscript. I misread and did this: gs devicenames == Of course that didn't do anything but an error. Then I realized I was supposed to run gs like a program and then type in devicenames == which gave me the names. However, ...

Re: Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" KDE RC released!
I've used Mint 14 in VirtualBox inside of Windows 8 about a year ago and it worked very nicely. In fact, that is why I made the leap to wipe out Win8 and install Mint 14 permanently on my laptop. Goes to show you YMMV on some platforms and versions of VirtualBox. Great news that 15 KDE is out now. I...

Re: Who is Mints target user?
Thank you! I think that was the one I was thinking about but when I saw it, it was a long time ago. They have made the site look even better now. Definitely worth bookmarking, especially those who love games.

Re: Who is Mints target user?
Cool! I think there was a place online (forgot where) that had a bunch of links to Linux Games. Don't know how often it's updated. I know there was a KDE site but there was also another one for games that would work with nearly any Linux distro.

Re: Who is Mints target user?
Great links! Hopefully more will be coming out soon. There is a Battlestar Galactica Online for Chrome but it's said that it won't work in the Linux version of Chrome. I also used to play Second Life. I wonder if they have a Linux version for that yet?

Re: Who is Mints target user?
Well, I'm sure there are citizens in your country that appreciate your service, nonetheless. :) I have to admit I should be more careful though to get at least the country right! That's the thing with Linux is the game stuff. There are a lot of gamers that are still stuck with Windows and who...

Re: Who is Mints target user?
First, thank you for your service to our country. 8) Secondly, have you looked into whether your favorite games can run in PlayOnLinux/WINE/WineTricks? Maybe do some searches to see. Also you could run VirtualBox in Windows and then make a virtual machine of a Linux Distro to test things in. That's ...

Re: Who is Mints target user?
Regarding the hot corners, if you go into your setting, all settings, there should be a setting literally called hot corners at which point you can turn that off. I think I remember seeing it somewhere in KDE but forgot where. Regarding the touchpad, I am able to disable it. Here is what I did: I o...

Re: Who is Mints target user?
Having come from a windows background, I found using Mint 15 with a cinnamon desktop works great! I switched to Linux after being fed up with windows 8's constant problems, lack of a good user interface, and the bloat. I think that Mint's target user is someone who comes from a windows background. ...

Re: Major KDE Developer Says Goodbye to Ubuntu
That don't sound good. I love KDE. I use KDE-based applications like Kedit and Amarok. I rely on them. Now I wonder what I'll do if they break off and Mint no longer can make a KDE version. Or, will Mint break off from Ubuntu as Mir takes hold? Or maybe will Ubuntu not make Mir mandatory? I honestly...

Re: Android Player for Linuxmint
I have been using the Android SDK which has a good Android Emulator installed. Here are a couple links to help you out with that. The first one I found especially useful in setting up an emulator, even if you don't set up everything else. You can install the Android SDK manager then install just emu...
