I just plug it in with USB and turn on tethering. My PC and laptop both recognize it as an ethernet connection

Funny tech support stories
I'm sure everyone here has a funny tech support story. Everyone has to call their ISP, once in a while, or perhaps their server provider for a dot com, or game server. I love reading them. I'll start. So while setting up the website for my distro, I realized that my server had outdated php, which ma...

The distro I wok on was based of LFS at first. We slowly migrated away though. Now we even have our own package manager, which is just awesome. LFS is a wonderful way to learn Linux from the inside out. I'd recommend it to anyone who's willing to learn (and work hard porting their own packages, buil...

Yeah canonical did help to push Linux on to more computers. Hell, there are people out there that don't even know there are other distros! But over the last couple years, canonical has shown that it's all about the $$. I stopped telling noob to try Ubuntu when 12.10 came out. I always promote mint o...

The future of Linux Mint
With all this talk of Ubuntu switching to mir, what's the future look like for mint? Is mint going to break off from Ubuntu, the way Ubuntu broke off from Debian? Or is mint going to just roll with Ubuntu and run mir? I am actually worried about this. I love mint. It's my favorite distro, and no mat...

It seems, more and more, that Ubuntu is wanting to move to an enterprise model. And also with mir coming into the mix, I don't know. I really hope that when that happens, that Mint will fork further away. I'll always support mint and if the dev team ever needs any help, with testing, package ports, ...

I perfectly understand him charging for it. A lot of people pay more than what he's charging for a cup of coffee. And if it's truly an essential piece of someone's toolbox, then they should gladly pay for it. Not to mention that the source is still available. So it's almost like the paid binary is j...

Re: Re: I'm about to quit Linux
I'm sorry for this rant, I just think that complaint threads like this do GNU/Linux and our wonderful community a great disservice. As well as spreading disinformation No worry's, this is the place to air it all out. Everyone reacts to things differently, some get challenged, some get flustered. Th...

I don't understand the constant complaining from windows users on this forum. The other day, I had to install a windows partition for a C# course I'm taking. It took 3 hours to install windows, apply updates, search for and install the nvidia driver, install visual studio. The whole time, apps would...

I'm so glad my dad raised me like he did. He has a degree in electronic engineering and when PCs were getting popular, he jumped on it like white on rice. He built computers for fun and for business. Together with myself and my brother, we built a gaming rig for us. He made sure that we did everythi...

Re: Linux Action Show KDE 4.10 Review
The Linux action show is good and always unbiased. (except for when talking about fedora lol) and KDE 4.10 is beautiful. I'm using it on my Arch partition. Lovely. And runs great over such a minimal distro as arch.

Re: It's nice to be back in Mint!
I'm still in the hopping phase but I always have an installation of Ubuntu or mint, and always have an installation of arch. Between Debian based distros and arch, you just can't go wrong. Oh and an installation of LSD gnu/Linux is always installed in a virtual box until we get the bugs worked out (...

Re: Linux's Stereotype: A Programming OS?
I personally prefer programming, as well as web dev, in Linux. Not everyone does tho. I use idle for python, Emacs for most everything else, and aptana for web dev. Everything works great but doesn't really differ from my windows experience much. In windows I used idle for Python, notepad++ or conte...

Re: Linux's distriubutions
The biggest differences that I've noticed between distributions is how some of them handle wireless internet. On some distros everything you need for true plug n play, is there and it just works. On others you need to configure it a bit (especially with broadcom wireless cards). Other than that, dis...

Re: What you use Linux for?
I've just switched to Linux a couple months ago. Linux mint cinnamon 13 was one of my first linux distributions and I love it. Mint is very nice and the cinnamon desktop is beautiful. You just can't knock it. Right now, however, I'm running Arch linux because I love a challenge and I wanted to learn...
