oh the package libreoffice is a meta-package I think.
I had some issues with ubuntu 12.4 and ended up installing open office from apache.

Re: Hello old friends

It feels like a strange cousin though. I had been using Fedora for quite some time. I stopped hopping and got into just using a daily os. Now I am changing jobs and my stint with oracle has become more than a hobby. I am in the possition to be way ahead on my knowledge base from all the window worsh...

Re: Do ubuntu (and maybe Mint) harm hard drive? (acpi proble

I was involved in the bug report for this. It was a hardware issue. My laptop has a Mitsubishi and was one having the acpi not spin down the drive correctly. This was present with BSD as well. I never got a real fix for it but after 2.6.33 it went away. It had that "click" sound at shutdow...

Re: Huge Virus infects many Ubuntu and Mint computers

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but this was the very reason I gave up on the Ubuntu forums, the constant Windows bashing. I chose Linux because I liked it, and I didn't have any desire for Windows to be driven in to the dust. It's not a bad OS, it works, and nicely with some tweaking, but I like Linux b...

Re: Linux Mint users most loved beer

Not a big beer drinker but I have to stop drinking Liquor due to health concerns and I am really getting suspicious of soda's health risks, cancer? In the U.S., most public water has fluoride, which is poisonous, yep. I love a good merlot sometimes but wine just makes me thirsty. So lately it's bott...

I think we have reached the event horrizon for Linux

I have been forthright in my quest to educate people about the "other" choice for OS'. For three years I have felt like an idiot when people look at me like I'm a goof-ball or get mad when the distro I give them does not meet their expectations. In the last week or so, this has changed. I ...

Oh, "That's illegal, you are a hacker aren't you? Your computer has to have Windows!"
Actually heard this. Ahhhh!
The "it's too hard" just sickens me.

I can only echo what has been said. Kde4 in M09 is nice and I have been critical of 4 lately. I have also tried the Gnome version, nice too. Those guys have a knack for good distros.

Re: How is everyone?

Well, I am officially back to Mint. I have 3 boxes with it, again. My distro hopping took me on a journey! I have introduced Linux to many people and the most positive results were from Mint cd's I handed out. I have been with Ubuntu for some time, since April. I still have hopes for Ubuntu and I am...

Re: More breakage in Ubuntu??

I'm happy to say that I have Elyssa nicely configured on my main box, the trusty old Dell laptop. I am toying with my desktop as I write. It crashed FFox twice just now. OK now FluxboxCE is on the desktop. I had trouble before but now it's flawless. My off-line desktop was already running Min...

Re: More breakage in Ubuntu??

Nice replies!
I have yet to change anything but Fedora10 in sitting in my desktop in live mode and I am Loving Mint's Flux CE.
I just feel let down, Hardy ran perfectly and I could install, clean-up, personalise. and tweak it in less than an hour.
Intrepid feels like Windows.

Well, sometimes we Ubuntu nuts get cracked and come crawling back to Mint. ZD does have some decent tasts though, maybe they'll catch on.
