Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

No idea :)) ... I just saw the word "bookman" associated with the word "font" and I assumed is the bookman old style font xD The learning curve is no fun but after a while everything - pretty much literally - will be easier than in windows. Well, everything besides fonts and device drivers.... LOL,...

Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

No idea :)) ... I just saw the word "bookman" associated with the word "font" and I assumed is the bookman old style font xD Man, you need to take me easy. I'm still learning my way around Linux after decades of using Windows. Yeah, I know that I've tried Linux for the first time many years ago (may...

Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

Ok. I had no idea that they are not free fonts, I have used them for decades under Win and so I've got used to them being "free" :) I'll take a look at the 2 links you've provided and see if there's anything I can do to use those fonts. If not, I'll stick to the ones I've got for now, cause at least...

Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

Oh... I didn't know I could use the synaptic manager xD ... Anyway, I followed your steps and I DID find bookman in the synaptic manager and installed it, but it still doesn't show up in LO. Probably I should run a terminal command to activate it?? I don't know... (**) I can't tell from that ambiguo...

Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

Um... the second code half-solves the problem. I mean, I can see arial, comic sans, georgia, impact, trbuchet, times new roman, and verdana in my LO Writer now, which is cool! But, I still don't see all other fonts (cambria, rockwell, lucida handwriting, bookman old style, constantia, centaur, book ...

Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

Can anyone help? I really need those fonts. Please! If you have a windows machine, just copy the fonts (name.ttf files) over to linux , e.g. /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msfonts/*.ttf then run sudo fc-cache -fv There's also a standard to copy them to your home directory. Ugh. I don't use windows anymo...

Re: MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

In order to try to reproduce your problem, I've run that reinstall command for those fonts on my Mint 19.1 box, and it completed successfully.... So perhaps you have a stale cache? First run sudo apt-get update and then try again. I still get error, but this time with a different IP address. Here's...

[SOLVED] MS Fonts (failed to reinstall)??

Hi, 1 month ago when I have installed Mint 19 Xfce I remember having installed the ms fonts, as well. But, I didn't need to use the LO Writer until today in order to see if the fonts have actually been installed or not. So, 30 minutes ago I have opened the Writer to... um.... write a document :) ......

Re: [SOLVED] moved to workspace right

@Moem... no problem, and thanks for helping

@HaveaMint... the workspace switcher adds icons for all 4 workspaces to the taskbar, thus clogging up my taskbar space even more. Thanks, but I'm ok for now :)

Re: [SOLVED] moved to workspace right

Where do I find this Expo applet?? Can't find it in the software manager... unless I'm overlooking it Applets are a Cinnamon thing, you haven't told us whether you are using Cinnamon. If you are, then there is an Applets section in your Preferences (on the menu). But you don't need an applet to get...

Re: [SOLVED] moved to workspace right

I don't need 4 workspaces, not now anyway. It's overkill for me. Then you can also get rid of them, by going to Expo mode and then closing all but one of them. The other question sounds like good fodder for a new topic. Where do I find this Expo applet?? Can't find it in the software manager... unl...

I wish that I knew how to easily re-arrange windows in the taskbar without having to open them in the right order, though...

EDIT: wait... opening them in the order that I wish to see them in into the taskbar doesn't do anything. Dang!

Re: moved to workspace right

Have you tried Ctrl-Alt-Left arrow ? or Ctrl-Alt-Up arrow to see all workspaces? Obviously not, cause I'm a newbie and had no idea about those shortcut keys, but Ctrl-Alt-Left did the trick... after I pressed it 3 times I just restored it back to workspace 1 and now I know what to do next time when...

[SOLVED] moved to workspace right

Hi, I right clicked on a libreoffice calc window in the taskbar and then I clicked on "move to workspace right" cause I was trying to move it at the end of the list of open windows / apps, not knowing that that's NOT the way to do it, and now my libreoffice calc is gone from the taskbar (I can't eve...

Re: Xfce running slow

HA I have figured out why the panel kept disappearing... it's because of a setting called "Opacity > Leave" that I've set from 100 to 0 and it was making the panel transparent all the time, except for when I was hovering my mouse over it. Dang!

Re: Xfce running slow

Not even a tenner to buy a USB stick? Or a friend you can borrow one or the other from? That's rough. In that case I would leave well enough alone for now. But I'm afraid this advice will fall on dear ears... Yeah, all of my friends have left the country many years ago, I'm the loser of the ...

For the love of all that's small and fuzzy, do make a backup of your critical stuff on an external medium of some kind! :!:
I can't, cause I'm poor (I'm not joking). If I had money I would do it, but since I don't have it... gotta play with the fire :D

Re: Xfce running slow

if your intention is to just re-aquire the ntfs and not retain anything in it pertaining to windows OS, your probably ok to format it for use with linux via ext4,...i may have misunderstood your intention with it. Yep, that's what I was thinking about: to wipe out the entire partition so that I can...
