Re: Installed Mint 19 fresh, can't mount my external hard drive

It works now.

I searched on the error message and applied what someone wrote in the second comment

https://askubuntu.com/questions/500647/ ... hard-drive
sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdb1
Thanks again for the help.

Installed Mint 19 fresh, can't mount my external hard drive

I installed a fresh copy of Mint 19 and all of the updates.

I can't mount my external USB hard drive.

I took it to a shop thinking it was broken. They plugged it into a windows box and it worked just fine.

Any ideas what is wrong and how I can fix it?

Grub & Boot Menu Failing

Hi, Last night I installed a lisenced copy of Windows 10 on my computer. Then I installed Linux Mint 19 Tara. The installer detected Windows, suggested a partition scheme which I chose, and then I went on. Everything worked great. Upon starting my computer I got a menu to go to either Linux or Windo...

Hi tinker123,

Another option you might consider would be to install Linux Mint and then install Virtualbox (VB)
I've tried that route. VirtualBox will not work for what I need.

Thanks

How to format a hard drive and what file systems to choose?

I would like to first install Windows 10 to a hard drive, then Mint.

What commands would I use?

Would I format the drive as NTFS so I can install windows, and then pick something else for the linux partitions?

Thanks.

Will Mint Detect Windows & Suggest Partitions?

I have Mint 18.3 on my computer. I would like to set up a dual boot with Windows 10. I have LVM, which I am told complicates issues. All of my data is on an external hard drive so I was thinking about reformatting my hard drive to NTFS, installing Windows 10 first, then running a Mint 18.3 bootable ...

Re: How to manually update the Weather Applet

That isn't the picture I have.

The only thing clickable in it is the city name, but that just brings up a web browser with a Yahoo weather report. It doesn't update the weather applet.

How to manually update the Weather Applet

How can I get the weather applet to update instantly instead of waiting out its cycle?

Thanks

Mint 17 Cinnamon: Totem & VLC: Can't get either to display subtitles

Linux Mint 17 Qianna

Cinnamon Desktop

Totem 3.10.1

VLC 2.1.6

I've been trying to play a movie in *.mp4 format.

I've tried both VLC and Totem, loading the *.srd files. Neither displays the subtitles. I went through the preferences of each.

I could use some clues for solving this.

Thanks

Re: Linux Mint 17 Qianna Cinnamon: Problem With Update Manager

Sorry, I do not see any screenshot. :? I have had the red x when my system does an update check, while the servers (mirrors) are being updated themselves with new lists and files. My update check usually rectifies itself within an hour or two, or three. And sure enough, a new update is available. :...

The red 'X' on my update manager automagically disappeared, with no action on my part since I posted.
