What kind of formatting does the built formatting do on Mint?

I formatted an external hard drive the other day.

I used the built in feature to Mint ( 20.0 )/Nautilus where you select the drive to be formatted in Nautilus, right click, and tell the system for format the device.

Is that a quick format or a deep format?

Is it possible to recover the data from my external hard drive?

I have an external USB hard drive (SSD) that I had years of data on. I was trying to format a USB stick ( thumb drive ) and picked the wrong path. I accidentality formatted the external hard drive instead ( selected the hard drive from within nautilus, right clicked, picked format, FAT32 ). Is it po...

Titles Of Minimized Applications Are Not Visible Until Hovered Over.

Is there any way to make it so the titles of minimized applications are visible all of the time?

What was the default Media Player in Mint 19?

I liked it better than celluloid 0.19, which is the default in Mint 20.

Replacement for Celluloid 0.19

I just upgraded to Mint 20. In the process I got Celluloid 0.19. I do not like the mobile device style menu. Celluloid 0.19 also lacks a feature to search for subtitle files on the Internet that the last video viewer had. Can anyone recommend a video viewer that has a built subtitle search and a con...

I did not get the new software mentioned in the 19.3 release notes and reports

I just upgraded from 19 to 19.3. During that process release notes came up in a window of "reports". It said that GIMP and XPlayer were replaced. On my system, post upgrade, neither were. It doesn't bother me as I am used to GIMP. I am curious though. Was this a malfunction, or forethought...

Questions About TimeShift

I just discovered TimeShift. I was very impressed with how easy it is to use and how it is integrated with the update manager. Is a TimeShift snapshot a ghost, an image of my hard drive? I didn't see anything about minimum disk space requirements. Does TimeShift use some sort of compressed data? Doe...

Re: Audio and Video issues

For what it is worth, I upgraded to 19.3. I still have the problem. I could not use either video driver you suggested. When I tried either the display was distorted ( giant fonts, stretched out display ) when I rebooted and I got an error message telling me I had not picked a video driver though I h...

Re: Audio and Video issues

I turned my external speakers off and then I went to the volume control and moved the slider to 50%. I still hear it. Re: Audio and Video issues

I did both things described in the post above.

I cranked my volume up on full and read some articles for about an hour.

The volume and frequency of the buzzing were greatly reduced, though not completely gone.

Re: How can I fix a slow clock?

Wow, I learned a lot in this thread, thanks for the responses.

I settled for simply resetting the time

Code: Select all

# sudo date +%T -s "10:13:13"
So far the clock on my computer hasn't slowed back down.

If it does I will try some of the other solutions.
