Re: Odd "Fix Broken Packages" Issue

I'm having the same problem and I don't have any broken packages either. Going into Synaptic and clicking on Fix Broken Packages doesn't make any difference either.

Re: Please give me one sound reason, i need it....

Like Aging Technogeek has said the best way is to have a second partition to install 10 on. I always install the newest Mint this way and make it my main after l have it set up the way l like and am satisfied with it. I leave the older one intact until the next new Mint is released. You will never b...

Re: NVIDIA problem

Just out of curiosity install your driver again so that it is working. Then save a copy of your xorg.conf file. When it again does not work compare the saved copy to your active file when you get the error and see if they are the same. Just a thought ... To me it sounds like the changes to the xorg....

Re: How did you all discover Linux ?

Back in 2003 l was talking to my cousin and expressing the accolades of XP to him. He sort of wrinkled up his nose at me so l asked why. He said he used Macs but liked Unix the best. He had used NextStep which was a product of Steve Jobs and his cronies. My curiosity got the best of me and l started...

Re: A question about Swap memory

2 gigs of swap should be plenty. As far as your ram goes it doesn't matter whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit it shouldn't affect your ram. What does it say in System Monitor?

Re: Audacity Issue

I used to use Audacity to record LPs without issue on Mepis but never had any luck with Linuxmint so I use Polderbits on an XP partition and it works well. I guess I could have installed Mepis on another partition and try it but not a big fan of KDE 4. I don't hop around much anymore, I just stick t...

HP 4500 All-In-One Printer

My old 3650 was getting pretty bad so I went to the Futureshop and picked up a new 4500 for $49.99 ... cheaper then the replacement ink. Unplugged the old, plugged in the new and started printing, set it to share and went up to my laptop on wifi and my printer was there and started printing. Sure a ...

Jason: If you read my post I didn't ask anything I simply made a few statements. Secondly if I was just trying to be cool and impress people I probably would have used a morbid avatar like you do. Thirdly I'm not an expert but do know more about the hands on use of the device then one who never used...

Re: Ipad

Thanks for the replies but I am completely aware of the benefits and short comings of the iPad because I read everything posted about it on the net for three months before I made my purchase and I own one. I use it 95 percent of the time now and just returned from a weeks holidays with it where befo...

Ipad

I bought a new iPad when they came out in Canada and it is great but it would be sure a lot greater if there was a touch screen LinuxMint on it. Is there anything in the pipes in the Linux community at present? It would be nice if you could hook the iPad to my LinuxMint desktop and have the option o...

SOLVED Network Printing

I installed 9-64 on both my Desktop and my Laptop. I can't print to my printer which is connected to my Desktop from my Laptop via wifi. Yet if I boot up my 8-64 which is still on a partition on my Desk top I can print with no problems from my Laptop 9-64. My Laptop sees my printer on Desktop 9-64 b...

Re: Linux Mint 9 "Isadora" RC released!

I have successfully installed and setup Isadora 64 on both my laptop and desktop and it is functioning superbly to this point in time. I still have my Helena installs intact on different partitions in case I encountered problems and I will leave them that way as I have no need of the space on their ...

Re: SOLVED "Open as Root" in File Browser?

Now I see it. I was going to the menu bar at the top and looking under File for it but now I see that you just have to right click on the folder and choose Open As Administrator  ... anyhow I guess we can go at it either way, ay? ... choice :D

Re: SOLVED "Open as Root" in File Browser?

I created a launcher on my desktop which solves my problem. Right click on Desktop>choose Create Launcher>choose Application in Terminal, in the name box I put Root Access, in the Command Box I put sudo nautilus. I moved the icon to my panel at the bottom and now when I click on it, it opens the Ter...
