Thinkpad Active Protection System

Hello,

I am currently using Thinkpad E540. Since Thinkpad's Active Protection System isn't available on Linux on their official website, I would like to ask that is there any open source software that provides the same function? If yes, how should I install it?

How to eject USB flash drive/ hard drive

Hello: I would like to know how to safely remove a USB device in Linux Mint 15? Is there a way that I can use command line to remove? I know I can use the eject function on the panel, but I don't hear the "click" sound while I am removing the USB hard drive. So I am a little bit worried. T...

Home folder

Hello:
I am using a separate /home partition for my Linux Mint 15. But I would like to know, will I be able to use the same /home partition for my other Ubuntu based OS? I mean, could share the /home partition between Ubuntu 13.04 and Linux Mint 15? If yes, how could I achieve that?

Re: How to completely remove mintmenu

eg. Open a terminal and run "sudo apt-get remove mintmenu && sudo apt-get autoremove"

Should I type && in the terminal? ( sorry, I am new to using Linux Mint, not sure how the terminal works yet)

Abnormal shutdown

Hello:
My computer happened to shutdown abnormally because I tripped over my power cord. Stupid anyway.
When I tried to turn it on, all I can see is command line interface. What command should I use to fix this? Should I do a disk check? Or is the Linux Mint already damaged beyond repair?

Re: Mint 15 or Mint 13?

xenopeek wrote:Yes, for that you enable the 'backports' repository in the Software Sources program. It's an option on the first tab. This gets you the Linux Mint 15 version of Cinnamon through Update Manager.

Thanks!!!! :D

Re: Differences between Ubuntu and Linux Mint

Yes...basically it's best to use a desktop environment on it's "native" environment...so, if you prefer the Unity desktop (as i do) then it is best to use Ubuntu and if you prefer the Cinnamon Desktop then go with Linux Mint...as mentioned, they are best "tuned" in their native ...

Re: Mint 15 or Mint 13?

The kernel that comes with Linux Mint 15 also requires a PAE processor, so if you have one of the old Pentium Ms that doesn't have PAE then you are recommended to use Linux Mint 13. Some users upgrade in place to Linux Mint 14 (or 15) and have reported success on running that on a non-PAE processor...

Re: Differences between Ubuntu and Linux Mint

I'd champion using live CD/DVD's ur USB's to try the different DE's out first, before you decide to download packages and install just to see if you even like the look and feel first. I have a current issue trying to get KDE off my mint 14 install which could so easily have been avoided if I'd just...

Re: Differences between Ubuntu and Linux Mint

You can install Unity on Linux Mint (with some hassles) and you can install Cinnamon or MATE also on Ubuntu (for Xfce and KDE you have Xubuntu and Kubuntu). Neither will give you the same experience. Unity is tuned and perfected on Ubuntu. Cinnamon and MATE are tuned and perfected on Linux Mint. Yo...

Differences between Ubuntu and Linux Mint

Hello:     I am a little bit curious about the difference between Ubuntu and Linux Mint.      As I searched on the web, the results suggested that the biggest difference between different distributions is the desktop environment. But does this mean that the only difference between Ubuntu and Linux M...

Re: Boot up stuck

So is this a hardware problem? If yes, how could I correct it. I don't think so.. there is a change in the Mint 15: boot splash.. in Mint 14 there was none. I can not explain any magic.. but from my experience in the past, it's maybe some odd resolution your monitor can't reproduce.. after you rebo...
