Re: Firefox 98: Default download settings have changed
The config fix in my post should take care of that, too. I saw someone mention in the comments that the fix did not revert the change on where the file was saved. However, I will check it again as it is possible I skimmed through the comments too quickly. Firefox in my PC reverted totally to the ol...

Re: Firefox 98: Default download settings have changed
The other change they made was to automatically download everything to one's Download folder even if you just want to just open it in a webpage. Every pdf, whether you want to save it or not, is downloaded and saved in the Download folder. Now I have to manually go clear that folder because it is n...

Re: Firefox 98: Default download settings have changed
For the people who, like me, find this latest Firefox "new optimized download flow" horribly irritating, intrusive (as the Firefox politic of "fixing the things that works until they cease working" in general), and causing a waste of a lot more "clicks" than in the past...

Re: EXT4-fs error [...] iget: bad extra_isize
Thanks! After finding an advice on a web page I had already used e2fsck (after checking what drives were the dm-0 and dm-1 cited in the errors - they are 2 external hard drives I use for data storage) on the unmounted drives, and it corrected a lot of errors (I hope I did the right thing by correcti...

EXT4-fs error [...] iget: bad extra_isize
Hello! Experimenting (and trying to learn to better use Linux) I used the command "dmesg" today, and in the output there are really A LOT of these errors: [429622.117575] EXT4-fs error (device dm-2): ext4_lookup:1590: inode #28642862: comm rm: iget: bad extra_isize 62385 (inode size 256) E...

Re: Double Archive Manager entry in the context menu
It's gone, thanks! The differences between the two files could cause some problem? (the remaining one doesn't have the MimeType line, for example), the total differences are: 1) org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop (the one renamed), has the MimeType line and ends with "NoDisplay=true" 2) file-rol...

Re: Double Archive Manager entry in the context menu
I was going to suggest checking the files under $HOME **, but because of what you wrote there, you might have two .desktop files in /usr/share/applications , namely file-roller.desktop and org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop Yes! I have two files there with these two names, and the same exact content apar...

Double Archive Manager entry in the context menu
Hello! I have had this problem for YEARS (so I don't remerber how it happened and when), but I would like to solve it once for all. When I right-click on a .cbz or .cbr file, in the context menu, there are TWO "open with Archive Manager" entries in the "open with" submenu, one un...

Re: strange moving Firefox color bar on window-list
Well, how Homer Simpson would say... Doh! The coloured bar is indeed a download progress bar. Now, when I am not downloading anything, it doesn't show. I could SWEAR that it did show up even when I wasn't downloading anything (as far as I know), even when I started firefox before doing anything else...

[SOLVED] strange moving Firefox color bar on window-list
Hello! I recently did upgrade my system from 18.2 to 18.3, then to Mint 19 and then to Mint 19.3. This problem started right when I did the first upgrade, to 18.3. I hoped that the following upgrades would fix it, but it didn't happen. The problem is that the FIRST minimized firefox windows on windo...

New mesa upgrade removes vlc and mint-meta-codecs?
Hello! I hope this is the right section... (I used Mint for a couple of years now but I am still a newbie) A couple of days ago in the update manager did appear a new mesa upgrade. Even if it's in the "4" category i usually tend to apply the mesa updates because in the past they solved som...

Re: Problem with a lot of symlinks inversed
THANK YOU! That fully solved the problem!
I did fear that it was impossible, or very complicated... and a single line solved everything. I will HAVE to learn that script magic someday...

[Solved] Problem with a lot of symlinks inversed
Hello! Stupid newbie here! Trying to save space on my hard disks I used the "FSlint Janitor" program to "merge" files. I tried it before on a couple of files on the same partition, it created hardlinks, I saw that I could move or rename the files without problems and then, withou...

Re: Update manager and suggested Kernel jump?
Desktop: Cinnamon 3.2.7 Distro: Linux Mint 18.1 Serena [edit: I have configured the update manager to show me all the updates, but with only levels 1-3 checked. The levels 4-5 updates I check before applying them. At this moment I have applied all the updates, Kernels included, up to this morning. T...

Re: Update manager and suggested Kernel jump?
I did refresh the list of updates, and now the suggested 4.8 kernel isn't there any more and the "recommended for security" kernel is 4.4.0-64 again. What could have caused that glitch?

Update manager and suggested Kernel jump?
Hi! I am currently running the 4.4.0-64 Kernel, that up to a few days ago was the one "recommended for security". The upgrade manager usually offer me only the new 4.4 upgrades, and I usually apply them. Today (a few minutes ago) I found the update manager offering the update to a 4,8 Kern...

Re: [SOLVED] HEVC x265 10bit - audio but not video with VLC
I did add the Videolan/stable-daily PPA to the software sources.
(Previously I did add the strukturag/libde265 PPA, but probably the codec is included in the videolan PpA and maybe you can skip this passage. Maybe)
