[virt-manager] LinuxMint 18.2 Cinnamon runs in software rendering mode

Hi! I decided to try out virt-manager as a virtualization solution - it would be nice to have VMs without out-of-tree kernel modules :) My host OS is Arch Linux, my guest: Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon. xserver-xorg-video-qxl was already installed out of the box. Besides, I installed spice-vdagent. Still...

Linux Mint, updates and an elderly person

Hi, I taught an elderly person from my family how to use a computer. We used Cinnamon as the desktop environment and they do quite well. Now the problem of updates arises. Normal users want Flash, and Firefox blocks out-of-date versions of it. Besides, there are bug fixes, etc. - it's not good to ru...

Re: Translations not installed for some apps in Mint 18 KDE

Hmmm... language-pack-kde-pl is not installed. Neither is lanugage-pack-pl.

In the times of 12.04 we had language-selector-kde, which is here no more. It's really tedious to download translations for all the base packages by hand. We have language selector for it under Gnome derivatives.

Re: Missing translations in KDE

Ok, but there's KMail which isn't fully translated too. And have no idea which other packages.

Under Cinnamon the full translations are never installed, the Language app offers them after installation.

Translations not installed for some apps in Mint 18 KDE

Hi, I've installed Linux Mint in the KDE flavor for the first time. What I noticed is that there are translations missing. For example Firefox is whole in English, KMail has parts of the interface in English too. The installation language was Polish and I manually set Polish as the used language in ...

And do you have your favorite replacements for the rest of GNOME apps? For example, Evince?

GEdit interface, Cinnamon, LM 18 - what next?

Some of you may've noticed that gedit, since 3.16 (LM has 3.14 right now) ships with a brand new interface. Suitable for tablets very well, I must admit. But not for a classic desktop I'd like to use and Cinnamon tries to be. So, what are you planning to do with it, as the release of LM18 approaches...

Disable animations for Guake only

Cinnamon animations look nice, but when I'm showing/hiding Guake multiple times, they are a little irritating. I'd like Guake to show up/hide instantly. Is there any way to exclude guake from the animations?

mintMenu without root privileges

On our workstations we don't have root privileges. We have a synced $HOME directory (stored on a server), limited to 768 MB. We're running PLD Linux 3.0 and have MATE there.

Is there any way to use mintMenu locally, without having to edit all the absolute paths in the source?

Asus X201E and Cinnamon

Will Asus X201E handle Cinnamon performance-wise? Or should I rather go for MATE?

I guess it should, since it was designed for Win8, but I'd like to hear your opinions.

Compose doesn't work with Cyrillic chars

I want to add accents to the Cyrillic characters. On my previous Linux box this worked as expected, on my laptop - not. I copied the /usr/share/X11/locale/en-US.UTF8/Compose to ~/.XCompose and rebooted. The following lines are present in ~/.XCompose <dead_acute> <Cyrillic_o> : "о́" # CYRIL...

Screen jagging on HP Compaq 6820s

I installed Linux Mint 17.2 MATE on HP Compaq 6820s, with the following spec, with CPU Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390 @ 1.86 Ghz instead: http://www.lapspecs.com/detail/hp-compaq+6820s While watching some flash videos fullscreen, screen jagging occurs. This is much smaller when using YouTube with its...

Re: Trouble with sound

I managed to bring audio playback back by disabling HDMI audio altogether from pavucontrol (set to off). But still the HDMI output is not shown by the Cinnamon sound control. aplay -l shows the HDMI output: $ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device ...

Trouble with sound

I have an Asus R556LB and I'm experiencing a lot of problems with the sound playback. Some time ago the sound effects disappeared. They have a sane volume, are all enabled. The playback in the sound settings doesn't work too. I didn't care about it much until I realized Firefox fails to play any fil...

Setting different scaling for different displays

I have a 15,6" 1366x768 laptop display and a 42" 1920x1080 TV set. When I move a window onto the TV set, the text is tiny. I saw a feature in Unity Control Center to set different scaling (DPI) for each of the displays: http://askubuntu.com/questions/472262/adapt-ubuntu-to-a-high-dpi-resol...

Well, I came across it, didn't work very well. But wine-staging 1.7.49+ includes GTK3 theming and it's what I'm going to use :)

Unable to add a keyboard layout on Cinnamon

I'd like to try the Polish Colemak layout. It's built into xkb: /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules $ grep -ri 'Polish (Colemak)' * base.extras.xml:
Polish (Colemak)
evdev.extras.xml:
Polish (Colemak)
Unfortunately, when trying to add the layout through the...

Thanks!

The recommended drivers on my desktop are the 340. Should I stay with it or rather downgrade to 304?
