Re: [solved] Override EDID on AMDGPU?

What are the ramifications of purging the system of cryptsetup? I don't see cryptsetup-bin on my system. My issue may not be exactly the same, but it might be. I have 3 displays, and not long ago (week, maybe 2) after a kernel upgrade, DP-1-1, a 22" Samsung monitor, started to look a bit off. T...

Re: How do I make google-chrome open magnet links automatically without prompting for xdg-open?

I'm running Chrome on LM 18.3, and trying to run Slack using the corporate SSO, I get the pop-up asking me to click on Cancel or XDG-OPEN, and I found this thread searching for a solution to THAT. I have a couple laptops (new work laptop and personal laptop) on LM 19.3, but am not near either, so ca...

Re: Anyone could workaround Webex?

I've always been able to run WebEx on my Linux Mint distributions. I install the 32-bit libraries, some OpenJDK packages, and IcedTea and it works fine. $ sudo apt install ia32-libs icedtea-plugin icedtea-netx icedtea-netx-common openjdk-8-jdk openjdk-8-jre openjdk-8-jdk-headless openjdk-8-jre-headl...

Re: Mint 18.3 does not load some sites while Win did it [SOLVED]

Thank you for adding the solution. That works for me, too. Now, does anyone know if we will be able to go back to using IPV6 at some point? Clearly, it's broken, if only on Chrome. I can use Firefox, but only because it has proxy settings internally I can play with. I was assuming that's where the p...

Re: Mint 17 on a Surface Pro 3

I have a Toshiba P75, which is a standard laptop (no touch screen, heavy, 17.3", multiple drive bays, etc.) and when I got it, it was UEFI only. The UEFI boot thing is a bit annoying for hardware manufacturers because in order to use it, you have to sell your soul to Microsoft since it's their ...

Re: DVD ripping [resolved]

I would not recommend using dd unless you know what you are doing. Using the wrong commands can corrupt the data of destination media. It is very powerful, and even more so if you use ddrescue, though that has been superceded by gddrescue. Just my 2 bits... I've been using Linux for nearly 20 years ...

Was a resolution found for this? I have Mint 16 running on a Lenovo T430 and it works flawlessly except Firefox hangs periodically and Chromium freezes completely and becomes unusable. I have to pkill -9 chromium to kill it. I've started using Firefox all the time on this laptop. I have multiple plu...

Re: Can I safely purchase a Displaylink monitor for LMDE?

Not yet. Someone got it to work in Mint 15, Mate, but it was sluggish http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=92099 Apparently another person had it working on 15, but the upgrade to 16 killed it. I've seen that on my own laptop. My Haswell Intel chipset worked fine under 15, but went a...

It works, then it doesn't work. Now it doesn't. I uninstalled all Oracle versions, al...

Re: You can install different shells on Linux Mint?

bash is too slow. ubuntu is using dash by default. it's faster and fully compatible with bash. you can use it via 'sudo dpkg-configure dash'. if it didn't work make sure that you have dash installed in your system. No, dash is NOT fully compatible with bash. When writing scripts, use BASH by defaul...

Re: I Need Auto-Raise with Sloppy Focus BACK

That's what's so great about Linux. I know Win7 has this feature now, but it's flaky and annoying because it's so inconsistent. With some apps, just doing a mouse-over auto-focuses and auto-raises. With other apps, the mouse has to go to the title-bar for it to work. And sometimes, it's not consiste...

Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)

Maybe try Linux Mint Debian Edition, Mate and see how it goes. Did you get the problem on the LiveCD session or only after the installation. If it was during the Live session (like you played long enough to find out, right? so my question is probably dumb), then you could use the LiveCD of LMDE and ...

Re: I Need Auto-Raise with Sloppy Focus BACK

Wow, that site isn't confusing to use at all... No really. I just went and searched, and there are things for focus, but not auto-raise. So, I think the former windows, current Linux Mint noobs are outnumbering real Linux users. We need to get someone's attention some how, but that site is out of my...

Re: I Need Auto-Raise with Sloppy Focus BACK

Agreed.

I am amazed at how many solutions I've found where the "asker" wanted to disable focus follows mouse, not get it to work. To me that is defeating one of the most productive and time-saving parts of X.

Let me not click all the time and my finger and me are much happier.

Re: display is dimmed

Please don't use the setpci command unless you thoroughly study how bad it can hurt your hardware. A much better option would be to try xbacklight -inc 100 (or in your case, xbacklight -inc 100;xbacklight -dec 1) to set the brightness and if that works, script it, Ie: #!/bin/sh # Karl Pearson # 2013...

Re: my screen is dim

The repository error is unrelated to the screen dimming. You might want to edit your posts, remove that part, and open a new thread in a different part of the site.

Also, it sounds like a kernel/driver issue. Did you say you have the intel haswell GPU?

[Solved] I Need Auto-Raise with Sloppy Focus BACK

Okay, I loaded dconf-editor, since Cinnamon is based on Gnome's DCONF model, and I searched for "mouse" and found, finally, the setting which worked. It's a no-brainer, because the command-line tool, gsettings, should have worked. The option is: org > cinnamon > desktop > wm > preferences ...

New Laptop, New Version of Linux Mint Cinnamon: v16-64bit Guess what. Auto-Raise is AGAIN BROKEN! Are the Cinnamon devs doing this on purpose? Is it upstream Ubuntu has been over-run by annoying former Microsoft programmers who, it seems, universally fail to see the benefit of Auto-Raise with Sloppy...

Re: i915.modeset workaround and Software Rendering Mode

I also purchased the Toshiba P75, and solved the boot-up problem and the black screen. Since I tried a few things in the BIOS, I wonder if changing from fast boot to normal boot may have been it, but I'm really not sure. However, once in my installed Linux Mint 15 (Cinnamon), I have in the upper-rig...

Re: how do you switch the buttons on the mouse?

Here's a method for those who like command-line tools to switch back to right-handed: user@system ~ $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse left-handed false and of course, "true" instead of "false" to set it to left-handed mode. I had to use this when I had h...
