Re: Wine Questions

For what it is worth....I have converted my laptop and desktop computers to LMDE 4 and loaded Irfanview on all of them using Play On Linux (Front End For Wine) from the LMDE 4 Software Manager. It loads Wine and enables you to easily download and install all required dependencies and then installs t...

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

FWIW..... I will continue to donate to Linux Mint with as much as I can when I can, as well as encourage it’s use to Windows users. However....I will no longer promote or use any version but LMDE. The incessant upgrades to Ubuntu based versions of Linux Mint and their accompanying updates poisons th...

Re: Why can't I get Thumbnails when uploading images to eBay?

I found this forum discussion because I just converted a lady who has 2 e-commerce sites, E-Bay and Etsy. She hated Winows10 so I demonstrated LM19.3 Cinnamon using my laptop and she was very excited about it’s features and benefits. However, she came to me within 3 days with the angry complaint tha...

Re: Wine Questions

Did you get WINE working in LMDE3 yet? I just loaded a laptop with LMDE 3 (9-Stretch) and used this webpage to load WINE. It worked just fine.

Re: Cell Phone Compatibility?

My wife and I are on LMint 19.2, Cinnamon 4.2.3, Linux Kernel 4.15.0-58-generic. She has an iphone 8. I use an Android phone. Thirty minutes ago I plugged her iphone 8 into her computer USB port(s) and at first got a dialog box with a sort of "no-can-do" message. We ignored it and 1 second...

Re: Insane sliders in LM 18.3 and LM 19.1

gm10....... Your instructions on changing the width of the scrollbar/sliders worked perfectly. We all appreciate your taking the time to post that fix. Any chance we could get you to do the same for the scrollbar/sliders color? I suspect the change is theme specific. In my case, I hope the followin...

Re: [SOLVED] Update Manager Problem

Thank you for your effort JeremyB but the error still comes up. This was a WAG, but the urls in the error refer to OSMC which Synaptic and the web describe as part and parcel of an open source media center akin to KODI, MythTV and Plex. I loaded all in the recent past in order to get my Hauppauge tu...

Re: [SOLVED] Update Manager Problem

I too had the Google public key error and used the solutions offered here to fix it. Thank you for that! However….I was receiving 2 errors. The Google public key error above and this one at the same time: “W: GPG error: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/osmc/xUbuntu_16.04 Release: The ...

Re: Output audio not working during Tv connection

Study this product and see if it will work for you. I have not tried it on my LM 18.1 machine yet but it works great on my Window 7 machine. You might need an adapter for the mini-display port you mentioned as well as a spare HDMI cable. Take a look and see. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K4...

(Solved)--Suspend does not work

I neglected to mention that my goal of loading LM 18.0 was to make my Happauge 955Q USB tuner work. It did because LM18.0 had a 4.2.0 kernel. The Hauppague support site concerning using that tuner in Ubuntu states the following: Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.4 includes kernel 4.2 with built in support for t...

Re: managed to run Google earth on LM17 64 bits

 FWIW.......I too had problems with Google Earth 64 bit crashing within one second after launching from the desktop icon.....but on LM18,Sarah,Cinnamon. Oddly, it didn't do that until 10 days after it was downloaded and installed from the Google site. I came here, read the thread and uninstall...

Frozen Screen with Checkerboard Pattern…..

Anybody ever seen this? I get a yellow and white very small checkerboard pattern over the entire desktop. The desktop freezes. Only the mouse arrow will move. Keyboard inputs do nothing. Clicking on panel and desktop icons does nothing and it may not happen for days. Other times it will do it 2 tim...

Re: Update manager issue (Chrome related) [SOLVED]

I respectfully disagree. In the past, I have noticed Chrome's update behavior as demonstrated in the video linked below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjrjrhNO-yc I don't see what the connection is between Mint's Chrome update settings being disabled and Chrome updating itself once it connects to...

Re: Update manager issue (Chrome related) [SOLVED]

So far, this has solved the “Red X” on the update shield issue for me. All other “solutions” posted have not worked. Seems simple enough and I don't see any reason why I shouldn't stick with it. I have now and always have had the 64 bit version of Chrome downloaded and installed directly from Google...
