Re: Rhythmbox crashes when connecting iPhone via USB

I've also had this problem since mint 20, but with an iPod. Rhythmbox won't run for more than 20 seconds whenever my iPod (nano gen3) is connected. I'd like to put some different music on it before it dies. :D inxi -Fxz System: Kernel: 5.13.0-22-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: N/A Desktop: Cinnamo...

Re: Installing new BIOS?

In some of my own laptop experiences; It can be bad or not fully seated SODIMM RAM, a fried or not fully seated drive(hard, CD/DVD, etc.), or the CMOS button battery. Or a combination of those. Many, MANY, many hours were wasted in order to bring you this advice. And in only one case was it a fried ...

Re: Recording from vinyl with Audacity

Tried pactl and it just said 25 and that's it. The alsamixer is very confusing and I may go back to it, but this is seriously techie. Meanwhile, I have found that the system recognizes the RCA to USB cabling (I'm using a Roxio package I found at a store). Here's what I get: https://forums.linuxmint...

Re: Sound

Hi,

If the sound app isn't working you can try going to a terminal and typing:

Code: Select all

alsamixer
You can use the arrow keys to select which output device to adjust and up/down arrow to change volume. M to mute[MM]/unmute[OO].

I had it happen to me once on a new Linux install and that fixed it.

Re: Recording from vinyl with Audacity

If you can't figure out which one is line-in or listen to it, you can open a terminal window and type: pactl load-module module-loopback this will turn on loopback so you can hear what is playing through line-in. If that works, remember that for loopback you'll have to do it again if you log-out or ...

Have you tried to install the latest stable nVidia driver from Menu > Preferences > Software Sources, then select Additional Drivers tab?

Does the drive show up if you try parted -l

Code: Select all

sudo parted -l
Also, does it show in the motherboard BIOS of the machine?

Re: loosing battery power big time when using wifi

I was looking for the Power Management to be On, and it is. Everything looks like it should, and I'm not sure if 14dBm is max power, so my experience stops here. I did see another post in this forum where you can sudo apt-get install laptop-mode-tools Possibly it could be of help to you. The post is...

Re: loosing battery power big time when using wifi

It looks obvious that your wifi card is transmitting at max power. There may be a way to set the adapter's config to lower it, but I haven't seen of a way to do it. I don't use wireless networking myself, but this interests me too. And, I've seen a few other users around here complaining about the v...

Re: USB Mouse/Keyboard Not Working During Installation

For Cmar: There should be a setting in your BIOS for "Enable Legacy USB Keyboard and mouse support" or something similiar. It depends on what motherboard you are using. See if you can find it and make sure to enable it. If it is already enabled, you may want to try Enabling Plug and Play O...

No prob. Wasn't worried. The more I thought about your last post, the more I was convinced that a new cmos batt would fix it. Now you've got me thinking that I could use a NAS.

Re: Reset all mouse setting

I don't think there is a reset or "back to default" way for the mouse settings. One thing you can do is create a new user, then log in as that user and see the default settings for the mouse. For Cinnamon 14, it's under Menu > Preferences > Mouse and Touchpad Here's mine..I'm using default...

Re: How to Re-install SATA Controllers

I've not much experience with xfce, but I remember seeing your other posts about this problem and thinking that I have no idea what you can do to fix them. It could be some corrupted system files and/or settings. Your best bet would probably be to get any important files backed up off the computer, ...

Re: 2 TB drive seen in BIOS, not seen in Mint

That would be an easy fix. Let us know if it works out. If not, let me know the MB and Raid card type.

I know that drained CMOS batteries can drive people mad, especially Laptop owners. It's amazing what a buck fifty battery can fix.

Hello and Salutations

Hi All, New guy from Gulf Breeze, FL, recently moved to Chattanooga, TN. I'm pretty new to Mint, but have been a nix user for a few years now. I'm one of '"those users"' who have came to Mint from Ubuntu since Gnome2 got dropped on its head. I'm currently a fan of Mint 14.1 Cinnamon 64-bit...

Re: 2 TB drive seen in BIOS, not seen in Mint

Does the array show up if you type:

Code: Select all

sudo parted -l
and/or

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l
(Lowercase L on both)

Also, what Motherboard and Raid card are you using? It could be a simple BIOS setting or boot order setting that is causing it to be missed.

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Here is an obscure solution I found a year or so ago that seems to help me. It helps me get between 20 and 10 MB/sec copies between Ubuntu and Mint 14.1 Cinnamon and USB sticks. It also helps with faster portable drive speeds as well. sudo gedit /etc/default/grub Insert pci=routeirq elevator=as into...
