Re: Linux Mint in jeopardy

FUD towards Microsoft? Tin foil? HUH? This is a GNU\Linux forum right? Does anyone else want to chime in who isn't clearly biased in Microsoft's favor? This is called an Ad Hoc attack everybody. When you don't have any clear facts against your opponent, then attack him directly. Smear his character,...

Linux Mint in jeopardy

Is anyone else as concerned as I am about the fact that a top microsoft man now runs the Ubuntu project? What is the future of the Linux Mint project now that canonical is clearly in bed with Microsoft? Are we still going to use Ubuntu as a base or move onto something else? http://techrights.org/201...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

I need to post an update to this thread. This issue has gone unanswered by LM admins for so long that Ubuntu is moving to 12.04.3 in August. Any plans to update Linux Mint 13 iso to 12.04.3? hmmmmmmmm? Anybody??

Re: Full Disk encryption and Linux Mint 13

Can I get a real response instead of Dr.Hu sending me dead links or stuff that I have read a hundred times. Once again, I would like a graphical alternative similar to Truecrypt. I need a COMPLETE FULL SYSTEM DISK ENCRYPTION solution. I need to encrypt and decrypt on the fly , usually from an offlin...

Re: Full Disk encryption and Linux Mint 13

Is there anybody out there that can help me with this? I keep searching online, but cannot find a single FDE solution for GNU/Linux. This is a serious strike against GNU/Linux adoption in the workplace. How can I justify dumping Windows without this capability? Someone please help.

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

I can personally verify that the standard linux 3.2.0-24 kernel included with Linux Mint 13 has issues with the latest ATI Radeon video card drivers. I've had PC lock ups and freezes on shutdown. In addition to installing recommended updates, kernel updates are critical if you are using proprietary ...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

We covered this in a previous post. Sure LMDE installs faster, but Installing a distro with rolling updates is simply not an option. We need the stability of a long term release with well tested updates for our everyday machines. Also, we need to get non-tech savvy friends and family away from Micro...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

Yeah, the language pack thing always bothered me. I wish something could done about that. Recently, I read an article about the possibility of ubuntu moving to rolling updates. http://www.zdnet.com/ubuntu-shuttleworth-and-rolling-releases-7000012503/ I hope this never happens, but my feeling is that...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

Just for the record. I am installing Linux Mint 13 for a coworker at this very moment. His windows partition was overrun with malware, so he agreed to try Linux Mint. Unfortunately, I won't be able to give him the machine today because of the all the updates that are required. We have a very slow co...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

Does any Linux Mint administrator type person want to chime in on the subject? Maybe someone who has Clem's direct line. :D You know, I wonder if Clem even reads these posts. For the love of God, please notice this thread and take action. I can't go through another Mint 13 LTS install +100s of addit...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

wow. I think I touched a nerve here. Great posts everybody. Thanks for supporting the proposal. Earlier in the thread someone fluffed off this issue by suggesting a new install each time or switch to Debian rolling updates. I think the point here is that Mint LTS versions should keep up with the Ubu...

Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.x

Does anyone know if Mint 13 Maya iso will be updated to Ubuntu 12.04.2 base? I did a search and noticed a proposal for this idea languishing without much support. http://community.linuxmint.com/idea/view/2685 Anything going on with this? I think a yearly iso update would be quite beneficial for the ...

Re: clonezilla help

Thanks for the comments guys. I am going to try qt4-fsarchiver. I just read that it is included in the latest Parted Magic distribution too. Perfect! I just want to say that it is a shame that Symantec chose not to support EXT4 filesystems in their enterprise version of ghost. I use ghost at my job ...

Re: deleted /tmp the other day

oh great. I thought I had to replace the contents of /tmp hence the image restoration. Thanks for the info. Hope I don't ever have to go through this again. :D

Any ideas about clonezilla or should I make that a different topic?

Re: deleted /tmp the other day

yeah. I ran the command to delete /tmp as root. I wasn't paying attention. So if I simply recreated the /tmp folder, then the contents would automatically be repopulated the next time I tried to login? I access mint install with both dvd and usb via grub4dos. what is the involved method that you spo...

deleted /tmp the other day

So I was going to delete /home/user/tmp the other day and ended up deleting /tmp instead. Yeah, I know. Stupid mistake. I was very busy and I wasn't paying attention when I ran sudo. Of course, I couldn't log in when I tried to reboot. Apparently, /tmp contains encoded login information or something...

Re: Full Disk encryption and Linux Mint 13

Oh, I should add. I am well aware of how FDE works. I am not interested in protecting my system drive contents with encryption once the drive is booted and mounted. My concern is that someone can physically remove the drive from my machine without my knowledge and mount it somewhere else to get the ...
