cant boot live cd inspiron660s

I have tried various ways to try to get the linux live mint 19.1 disk to boot up on the Dell Inspiron 660s desktop computer. It is an i3 so i know it is new enough and I am trying to boot up with a 64bit live disk. The first one I tried was from a magazine and it failed to boot at all, so I went on ...

Re: $HOME/.dmrc is being ignored

Ok this is happening to me as well. I can log into my linux mint 17.3 ok but it gives me that same exact message. I am not sure how to do this correctly using the command line. Do I go to the command line and enter only this: sudo chmod 600 ~/.dmrc or do I put a space between / and the .dmrc? I am n...

system clock erratic

I have read the existing post about this topic but my problem is much different. My time does not shift by multiple time zones as is described in the other thread. My problem seems to be different than those described. in that thread. I have my time in 24 hr mode. I am running linux mint 17.3 with l...

Re: SOLVED System Clock cant keep time

My problem seems to be different than those described. I have my time in 24 hr mode. I am running linux mint 17.3 with latest updates. I have selected to get time from internet and I am in the correct time zone. \ My time varies daily. I set it today and probably by later on today it will be fast by...

Re: Problems with Skype...

I found a solution to this problem. If you have this happening and your package manager declares you have the latest version and it is on 4.3 or something, it is not the latest. But it seems my mint17.3 package manager is not doing this correctly. I went to the skype site and downloaded I think a ve...

Re: Problems with Skype reinstall on Mint 14

I posted about this problem a few minutes ago in another part of the forum. I expect that it will do him no good to update to Mint 17 or 18 for that matter as I have the same experience this week with my desktop running mint 17.3 I am waiting to hear if there is any way to use a linux computer to co...

Re: Problems with Skype...

I have used Skype on linux for years now. Most of the time on Linux Mint and I am now using version 17.3 as I have not updated to the latest version yet. I have had no issues of any importance until about 5 days ago when I could not launch Skype at all. It would load as usual and ask for my user nam...

VLC player audio is intermittant

I am running linux mint 17.3. I installed the latest version of VLC player for Mint from the video lan site. It did not help the problem. Re: [SOLVED] Recover accidentally deleted files?

Yes I was able to make this work. I went into the directory where all the files were now located and ran the commands from there and it was all good.
Thank you.

Re: files recovered by using testdisk locked

I finally found on line somewhere that to undo the locked read only files I got as a result of testdisk I had to do the following: I had testdisk put the recovered files in my home directory so I went to the home directory and opened it as terminal. Next I used the following command in the terminal:...

files recovered by using testdisk locked

I have now used testdisk to recover some deleted files including videos and pictures from one of my drives where there was a glitch in moving them and they were accidentally lost. I see them on my other drive now where I had testdisk put them while I was using my administer priveleges to do it. Test...

Re: [SOLVED] Recover accidentally deleted files?

I used testdisk to try to recover some files lost while copying them. I was copying folders each containing a movie and its description as a txt file usually. I was copying them into another directory on the same disk. Something went wrong and I suddenly had lost almost all the content of the larger...

Re: Live dvd needs more apps

I know that several of the magazines have put out disks with what they call tool kits, but they are really lacking a comprehensive set of applications which could be used to solves some of our most pressing issues with our installation failures. I find a lack of anything to correct boot errors which...

Live dvd needs more apps

I had an issue with somehow deleting my partition of my linux installation. Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

ReFind really worked well for me. I had issues with an hp 2000-2b09 computer where I managed to somehow install ubuntu 14.10 on the hdd almost the same way it does usually without the UEFI on a computer. I let linux control the whole install. I had found a way to enter bios and get the boot manager ...

Re: Dual Boot with Windows 8 - Cannot get working [Solved]

I might add that if i was able to reorder the boot order or find some way to boot from the dvd first then I did that instead of disabling the secure boot. I cant recall now exactly how I got the dvd to boot first.
I know this is probably important to know, but I am just not sure now..

Re: Dual Boot with Windows 8 - Cannot get working [Solved]

I ran the ubuntu live disk for 14.10 on a hp 2000-2b09 after first getting into bios and changing only the boot list so that it would boot from the dvd drive first in the legacy mode. I think that automatically disabled secure boot if I recall correctly. I installed using the standard method given o...

Re: Can not change boot order [SOLVED]

I almost understand enough to do this. But how do I know what my preferred system boot number is? Also first I knew about the efibootmgr. How do I get that program and do I run it from inside my linux install after i manage to boot into it on my hp 2000 computer? Or is it run from inside of the wind...

Re: K9copy Segmentation Fault 11

I think perhaps you solved this issue by updating your hardware. I have found issue with some dvd burners which are related to them being too old to make copies of the latest movies or data disks. Updating codecs is often required. I have to do that often on my windows computer running XP which I us...
