Re: Donations

Okay, that's news. The last time I had to do it here on the site, and next I knew my name showed up. Thank you! I have no trouble with PayPal, but don't want my real name being published. No problem with Mint knowing my real name, but yes a problem with it being published on the web. So I had to sto...

Re: Mint 17.1 No Sound

UPDATE: if you're having this problem in KDE, there's a great Wiki article on how to fix it. Idea is to make ALSA the DEFAULT 1st preferred device. That's the only way you can access the alsa mixer in terminal, too. I just tested the Wiki instructions using PCLinuxOS KDE cuz my Linux Mint uses Mate ...

Sorry, I don't know what the reddened text below means... yes - - there is a way, in as much as you will be contacted by the Admin Team, and supplied with an link, where you can edit your details .. .. ie: it's that detail, that is then mentioned in the Monthly Stats. but, you primarily have to use ...

Hi, Rocky! Didn't know you were here. That's my question: I don't want my name showing up in the list, so I stopped donating. - Is there a way to stop them from publishing the NAMES of those who donate? I put a related thread in my own forum. I haven't donated (yet), but it looks like there's a butt...

Hey, maurolm, glad you liked the 'tutorial'. I don't know how to use Virtual Box. Would rather just plug in my now-mobile Linux distros, as needed, into my XP machines. :) hi there brainout, great tutorial! not sure if here is the proper place , do you have a similar tut on how to run MINT on a VIRT...

Re: LiveUSB installer freezes

Two solutions: 1) Reset your BIOS to Legacy, not secure boot, then try installing again. UEFI blocks the installation of another OS, so it will go into a hang. I've tried resetting the BIOS to Legacy and the installer still hangs. What else could be the problem? Golly, I don't know. The LiveUSB met...

Thank you for your help - I am still having problems. I used the "Install Linux Mint" and did a full install to the USB flash drive but the drive was not bootable. see my request for "Steps To Create A Bootable "Full Installation" Flash Drive Well, if you're in the mood, try doing it to an external...

Re: LiveUSB installer freezes

Two solutions: 1) Reset your BIOS to Legacy, not secure boot, then try installing again. UEFI blocks the installation of another OS, so it will go into a hang. 2) Better still, don't install Linux Mint to your internal hard drive. Install it to an external hard drive or to a stick. I've done that ma...

To answer you, technically I bet you might right-click on the sys file with Wine Program loader, but either a) nothing will happen or b) it works but since a sys file, it just loads and SEEMS like nothing happened. :) Download the driver (not the smartware) here: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/...

Re: No option for HDMI sound

Thank you for your reply. It doesn't seem like running alsamixer does any difference. I've put everything on 100% except microphone stuff and S/PDIF. Strange thing, now alsamixer says the Chip is called "Intel PantherPoint HDMI". Still no option for HDMI audio in Kmixer, though. Other ideas are wel...

Re: No option for HDMI sound

It's funny your post is so timely. What you want, I was trying to get rid of. I believe in a Linux buddy system of distros: pairs of distros. So the 'buddy' for Mint used to be Fedora, but version 22 is snickety, so I found PCLinuxOS instead. That distro has 'jack' and 'alsa' and 'pulse audio' and K...

I finally managed to burn a disk, several for that matter. Using k3b! I was still unable to use Brasero. The same thing happened over andover. Am currently dealing with another problem, as I tried to install another OS and it did not take. It also did something to my boot loader. See my post in Ins...

Yeah, the Cruzer is sluggish. I made the mistake of using it for Fedora, and it is sloooowwwww. Try a 3.0 stick, Kingston has them here: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital-Traveler-DTIG4-32GBET/dp/B00M2UJMIC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1435560876&sr=8-7&keywords=kingston+3.0+flash+drive . Re: How do I uninstall Firefox add-ons in Mint?

Okay, well I didn't have to do that on my 32-bit Mint Mate 17. Nor on 13. So maybe you have LMDE, and maybe there the procedures are different. No, I use Xubuntu. But when I did last use Linux Mint (version 15), the pre-installed add-ons could only be disabled and not removed from within Firefox. I...

Well, actually you have the right settings. Are you on Acer? For its USB-first setting is exactly what you show. I know, because I just checked my Acer netbook and it has the same first entry. That netbook dates from 2009, and runs XP Home. Even so, Move up the CD rom to just below Legacy Floppy. #4...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

I am still a newbie, so what follows is what worked for me. I might know up to 12 Linux terminal commands, if that, so obviously you don't need to know the Terminal to benefit from Linux. Especially, Mint: it's the easiest of all the distros aka Linux OS programs, to learn as a newbie. Again, I am o...
