mint kde 18 get rid of black background tooltip

I`m use Mint KDE 18.3 and have been trying desperately to change the colour of tooltips The default colour is white text on a black background, which I loath, partly as that combination means barely readable text on my monitor, the standard rule on the web is never use extremes of colour, so why set...

Re: (SOLVED) How do I get back to the "old" login screen?

Adding MDM worked for me on a clean install of 18.3 KDE (don't like the way LightMDM reverts to defaults at drop of a hat!! and don't like plain colour login) However these are my notes of issues. On install of MDM from software manager the install appears to hang, it hasn't really, a popup has been...

Re: How to remove the yellow plasma notes from a desktop?

KNOTES or NOTES is a very annoying program :x , behaves more like a virus, if you un-install it, its still there!! if you un-install Korganizer its still there, if you look for its runtime in bin and delete, its still there!! If you block it from starting with the session, guess what its still there...

Re: Trash (Wastebin) is not fully functional in Mint 17 KDE

The Plasma desktop and Dolphin do default to the Delete key meaning Send-To-Trash. Have you got some sort of shift-lock or sticky-key running so Dolphin sees Shift-Delete? In Dolphin you can look under Settings | Configure Short Cuts to see the active keystroke actions. BONUS HELP Linux makes it ve...

Trash (Wastebin) is not fully functional in Mint 17 KDE

I`ve noticed for a while that most of the time when deleting anything it does not pass to the Trash, but this is the default behaviour I need. A friend just lost a whole folder due to this behaviour, and un-deleting is very difficult (or impossible) in Mint! (different install of Mint 17 KDE) In Dol...

Re: User Name for Software Reviews

Found a workaround!!

Goto https://community.linuxmint.com/software/browse and place your review there, note the server is buggy so you may get errors & probably just a blank screen after submitting your review!

Comment the kdialog line and just leave the environment redirect line to see if that alone works.

Yes it works fine from the cl

I`ve commented out that line but still no joy!

Re: Using udev to show a message on drive removal fails

Try monitoring the activity when you unplug the drive with: udevadm monitor --udev The output is: UDEV [217501.318275] remove /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.2/usb1/1-1/1-1.2/1-1.2:1.0/host35/target35:0:0/35:0:0:0/scsi_disk/35:0:0:0 (scsi_disk) UDEV [217501.318838] remove /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00...

Re: Using udev to show a message on drive removal fails

Sam234, That looks like a kde specific application so I'm not at all familiar with it, but to make sure the script is getting hit add env >/home/$USER/tstenv.txt to the script then check that the environment was dumped to that file. I`ve added that and there is no dump, so it appears udev is refusi...

Using udev to show a message on drive removal fails

I need to give the user a warning once a drive is disconnected, I`ve added the udev rule (in etc/udev/rules.d): ACTION=="remove",DRIVERS=="usb",ATTRS{idVendor}=="14cd",ATTRS{idProduct}=="6600", RUN+="/home/me/.bin/unmount70.sh" and created the script unmount70.sh as #!/bin/sh kdialog --title "Warnin...

Re: WD My Passport Ultra will not auto mount on Mint 16

Evidently, I was mistaken about a user being able to mount an ntfs partition if the user option was included as a mount option. I got Unprivileged user can not mount NTFS block devices using the external FUSE library. Either mount the volume as root, or rebuild NTFS-3G with integrated FUSE support ...

Re: WD My Passport Ultra will not auto mount on Mint 16

Sam234, Everything looks good. The reason it's not working is because you're trying to use an alias in the udev environment. It's much different than the bash environment. It's not sourcing profile, bashrc etc. So use the full qualified path to the script. Also the alias shouldn't need the escalati...

Re: WD My Passport Ultra will not auto mount on Mint 16

OK Thanks So as I understand it you can get the manual mount script to auto execute through udev. What I`ve done Created a script in home/user/.bin/ called mount_dv containing #!/bin/bash # sleep 1s mount /media/me/MyPassport exit 0 setup an alias to that of: alias mount_dv='sudo su - root -c ~/.bin...

Re: WD My Passport Ultra will not auto mount on Mint 16

Sam234, You might be able to automount it with a udev rule, but only if it's detected when you plug it in. It's possible that there's no udev rule for that product/vendor id so it does nothing even though udev does trigger a response. Can you paste back your fstab entry :?: Not heard of udev rules?...

Re: WD My Passport Ultra will not auto mount on Mint 16

What happens if you boot with the usb drive already connected? Have you tried creating an entry in fstab to mount it? Booting with the drive connected does mount the drive, but in read only mode, editing fstab to add it does work, but is not practical for this use as its wished as a portable drive ...

WD My Passport Ultra will not auto mount on Mint 16 (Solved)

I have a Western Digital My Passport 1TB drive (USB3) which I`ve separated into multiple partitions and on Linux Mint 16 it works great, auto-mounting on connection as expected. Now my sister has bought one except she got the latest Ultra edition (spec otherwise the same) which refuses to automount....
