Can't Mount RAID after upgrade from Mint 18.2 to 19.2

I had plenty of space on my OS SSD so I made a new partition and installed v19.2 Mate 64 along side Mint v18.2 Mate 64 I've been using for 2+ years. My home folder is a software RAID0 of two mag drives and I couldn't remember if Mint would install with home mapped to a RAID, but I knew I could remap...

Re: Corrupt file when printing only to HP MFP M477fdw

Crazier yet. I powered-off her M477fdn printer, had dinner, then powered it back up and it worked! From both her desktop and my laptop on Mint v18.2. I had done power-cycles on the printer before trying to debug this issue (before the plug-in install on her desktop, but within the last few days). Ve...

Re: Corrupt file when printing only to HP MFP M477fdw

The crazy thing, I was printing from my Linux Mint v18.2 work laptop to her M477fdn this past weekend, I printed a color PDF for work. Today I tried to print a color picture for my wife from my laptop on her printer, now I get the exact same result as her Mint v18.2 desktop (blank page and error pag...

I only have cups v2.1.3 installed with Mint v18.2, no driverless printing options in there.

Re: Corrupt file when printing only to HP MFP M477fdw

I had this same problem with my wife's M477fdn on Mint v18.2, hplip v 3.16.3. The printer LED display always displayed a message that the print job was corrupt and printed nothing. Then I ran hp-setup and installed the plugin. Now the printer prints text and simple graphics fine (like gridlines in s...

Re: Mint Mate v18.2 - external monitor goes black periodically

Figures, right after I post I find the potential solution. I don't know that I want to risk this right now with my crazy schedule at work and my total dependency on this laptop, but will put on my to-do list.

Mint Mate v18.2 - external monitor goes black periodically

Greetings, My external monitor goes black for a couple seconds, then comes back and everything is fine. I would guess it happens every 15-30 minutes, I guess I haven't really timed it. I've had this issue for quite a while on Mint v18.2, but have been using my external monitor a lot more lately and ...

Re: Mint v18.2 suddenly fails to boot

No fix yet, but I did find a hack-around. If I comment out my home folder entry in fstab it will boot to the GUI login prompt. At that point I can CTRL-ALT-F1 to a terminal, login and mount my home folder, then CTRL-ALT-F7 back to the GUI and login under my normal user and everything loads as it did...

Re: Mint v18.2 suddenly fails to boot

I would first need to build a time machine to go back in time to a known-good condition to make a snapshot with Timeshift.

Another 1000 lines in, I found this, but assumed it was WIFI related because of the iwlwifi before the two systemd messages: Oct 13 17:42:55 BAJ-HPzBookG3 kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: loaded firmware version 21.302800.0 op_mode iwlmvm Oct 13 17:42:55 BAJ-HPzBookG3 systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2dpartlab...

Re: Mint v18.2 suddenly fails to boot

Thanks Karl, Sadly I've been working on this most of the day, I like to try to solve my own problems or at least dig in to better understand what might be causing it. I did do the journalctl -xb, which is where I got the idea to look at fstab. Unfortunately using journalctl -xb -1 doesn't appear to ...

Mint v18.2 suddenly fails to boot

I've been running Mint v18.2 for a little over a year now and I do updates a couple times per month. I use this laptop for work and so I don't color outside the lines, I try to stick to the basics and aside from the Mint updates haven't made a change to the system in months. I just rebooted my compu...

How to clear orphaned pop-ups?

Maybe those aren't the correct terms, but I have had this happen now and then with Mint over the years (and versions), now on v18.2. Sometimes I am able to find the source, click on the right thing and clear it, sometimes I have to reboot to get rid of it. Not a big deal but kind of annoying that it...

Re: [Soved] Mint 13 suddenly boots into (initramfs)

I had a "bad update" in Mint v18.2 cause this, but Karl's command did the trick.

Code: Select all

sudo fsck -f -V /dev/sdaX
Thanks Karl!

Re: Can't get 1920x1080 res. with Intel graphics on Mint v18.2

Yes, I figured out lightdm was the right one. The mdm line didn't work. But I still didn't get the end result of an xorg.config file being created. Using the same procedure with xrandr above, I have 1920x720 working, but of course everything is smooshed horizontally/stretched vertically and is gener...

Re: Can't get 1920x1080 res. with Intel graphics on Mint v18.2

Found my issue with the xrandr command. These now work: ~ $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1024 x 768, maximum 32767 x 32767 HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) VGA1 connected primary 1024x768+0+0 (norma...

Can't get 1920x1080 res. with Intel graphics on Mint v18.2

I found several posts on this, but none have a solution that currently works for my system. Either Mint/kernel has changed too much since these were written or I have other issues. https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/bugs#TOC-Improve-video-performance-for-Intel-graphics https://commun...

Change Documents folder location

Is there a way you can make the pre-configured home folders for Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Video point to other folders? That'd be handy as those are per-configured shortcuts on most app File- operations.

Thanks,
