Re: How to copy/clone xfce panel?
I am thinking of the import/export function. It shall workaround my failure in editing the xml manually in my earlier try. Unless I'm totally missing it... My initial panel configuration consists of one panel. I do an export, and that exports what I currently have (one panel). If I import that, I a...

Re: How to copy/clone xfce panel?
I had come across that earlier.billyswong wrote: ⤴Sat Apr 06, 2024 8:58 am An interesting tool found that may or may not help you copy the panel:xfce4-panel-profiles
Unless I'm mistaken, it does no good.
It simply saves what you have already created.
So you are still left to manually create this second panel by some other means.

Re: How to copy/clone xfce panel?
you will need some XML skill You lost me right there  Thanks for trying all that stuff. I was kinda thinking that there must be a simple solution. I gathered it wouldn't be as simple as a GUI method, but perhaps something like copy file A to file B. If it is completely convoluted and error pro...

Re: How to copy/clone xfce panel?
Is this for a different workspace? It is for a different monitor (not sure if that is considered a different workspace). To make it simple though, let's say (for the sake of argument) I want the new panel to be 2cm above the original panel (hoping the destination location makes no difference on the...

How to copy/clone xfce panel?
How can I make a second panel that is an exact clone/copy of the original panel? I've found tons of instructions on "creating' a second blank panel, but you are then left to fuss around adding each piece to this second panel to try and make it look like the first. I can't seem to find any info ...

Re: How to burn Hirens PE ISO to USB with linux mint?
So I think I'm back to the question of how can I burn this ISO using mint, so that I end up with a USB similar to as if it were burnt using rufus? No need for special tools: Thanks, you solved it. It now boots and all the utilities are there. I think I can see what's goin' on now. When the hirens P...

Re: How to burn Hirens PE ISO to USB with linux mint?
OH - BTW - I tried Ventoy et al, and they had a whole nuther set of problems, so that is a no-go. I did create it with Ventoy and have no problems. https://i.imgur.com/KIriwQP.jpeg Thanks for the replies. I gotta chuckle... I had specifically put the comment about Ventoy to prevent the thread from ...

How to burn Hirens PE ISO to USB with linux mint - solved?
I'm trying to make a bootable Hirens USB drive. The hirens web page says to use Rufus to burn the ISO to the USB, however I don't have Windows, so I tried burning it using the USB Image Writer in mint 21 XFCE (binary app is called mintstick). The result is that the USB will boot on a machine, howeve...

Re: Help Understanding Packages/Installs
Some great suggestions have been posted on how to remove packages. I may add... even though a person may have issued a command to install some packages, it is possible that those packages were already installed on the machine. So removing them may be problematic. I notice there is a log in /var/log/...

Re: FlatPak: is the huge size difference really worth it for VLC
I'll throw in my 2 cents (got my flameproof asbestos suit on). First with regard to VLC...I've come across several posts where people are having problems with it. The apt repo has version 3.0.16 which is full of bugs. I can't use it, and had to breakdown and get a flatpak version. With regard to fla...

Problem with dual monitor configuration/orientation randomly changing
Running mint 21 xfce. It is a laptop and I'm using it as a home theatre pc with the tv connected to hdmi. The quick description of the problem is... I set the orientation of the monitors (the tv and the laptop display) using the xfce "display" app (you know left/right/over/under etc). It w...

Re: Latest kernel installed on wrong drive (external usb drive)
Actually, I started playing with ansible, so I may ditch the VM/clone deploy method and trade it for another set of problems - er I mean "method". Just now briefly looked at that "ansible", looks fairly difficult, not to mention I do not see any provisions for customizations ? W...

Re: Latest kernel installed on wrong drive (external usb drive)
1, I figure I should ask how to move that latest 91 kernel to its proper spot before I make more of a mess. Should I try and remove that latest 91 kernel using the gui, then do another mintupdate? /CUT/ 2, Not sure if this means I can just delete those 91 kernel files on the usb disk, or are there ...

Latest kernel installed on wrong drive (external usb drive) (solved)
Bear with me, cuz I really don't understand what's going wrong (hopefully this problem clicks with someone). I have a physical machine where I created it from cloning a mint 21 VM. I have been doing mintupdate(s) for a long time with no problem. I recently added a usb drive to the system (just to ho...

Re: Newer v6 kernels are corrupting my disk so it won't boot
This has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I run Fedora which has been kernel 6 for quite some time on my 14w and get the same on a reboot, always have. The kernel is not doing anything to the disk or the machine. It's a bug in the bios. Shutdown and power on works fine, just no reboot. ...

Re: Newer v6 kernels are corrupting my disk so it won't boot
You're stuck on the fact you want a solution. Yes, that's the whole point of posting :-) If everyone just used the workaround that they already know, there would be no posts. Thanks for the info, it looks like you are on the right track about reboot/shutdown being hardware specific as it looks like...

Re: Newer v6 kernels are corrupting my disk so it won't boot
Because if you make a mistake and actually use the machine as it should be used, it borks your machine. . . . So I take it that "power down" does not mean that you are using the Linux Mint Shutdown command? Does that not work?\ Because if it does, then as Linux-Rox says, it's an easy work...

Re: Newer v6 kernels are corrupting my disk so it won't boot
While running 6.2.0-37, if I "power down" the machine and "power-on", it will boot. So, why don't you just do that? As workarounds go, it's pretty easy. Because if you make a mistake and actually use the machine as it should be used, it borks your machine. Plus I have an identic...

Newer v6 kernels are corrupting my disk so it won't boot
I have an odd problem. Mint 21 on a lenovo 14w laptop (it's one of those dirt cheap laptops with an mmc drive and I'm using GPT). It has been working fine for years (aside from the amd stoney graphics never working from day 1). When kernel 5.15.0-86 recently came out, it really messed up the stoney ...
