Re: Cinnamon wallpaper is gone

Got the same problem in LM17, along with some other weird behaviour. Anyone has any clue how to fix this?

Don´t get the Radeon card, get a Nvidia GPU instead.

Re: Linux, for gamers? Whats your thoughts?

However I'm seriously considering purchasing a new powerhouse laptop. I7 quad core 2.8Ghz//6 or 8GB Nvidia 880m graphics etc... . Sounds good, except that you probably will have a lot of problems with the GPU. Correct me if I´m wrong, but the dual Intel+Nvidia graphics are a really mess to setup in...

Re: AOE III bug

I agree with xenopeek. it´s not a bug, it´s the GPU drivers that are the problem. Type

Code: Select all

inxi -G
in a terminal and paste the output here, and then we´ll see what GPU you have.

Re: Steam games not working after installing NVIDIA card (SO

Good you found a solution. There are proprietary drivers in the "standard supply" yes, just do as I wrote in the other post. Although they are usually not the newest ones though, so if one wants to have some more bleeding-edge drivers one has to add another PPA.

Re: Steam games not working after installing NVIDIA card

Did you reinstall Mint after changing video card? That would probably be a good thing to do if you haven´t. Also the guide that you have followed seems make it a lot more difficult then it need to be. Every time I reinstall I just go to "System" > "Driver manager" and there I cho...

Re: WOW fps issue

That sucks. Well then you either have to install Windows, or continue to try fiddling with different driver settings, in game settings etc, if you want to be able to play WoW.

Re: WOW fps issue

Well hopefully it will improve your FPS. That image was a lot better. I see that you´re on a laptop with what I guess is an APU. That might be the problem, I don´t know how good the AMD´s APU drivers for Linux are, but for Nvidia they´re quite bad. So that might be the cause of your problem.

Re: WOW fps issue

The image doesn´t show which driver you´re using. I don´t have an AMD GPU myself, due to bad drivers. You could try different drivers, try googel around, or wait and hope for someone else to post in this thread. You did not answer whether you´re using DX or OpenGL, maybe you don´t know what it is. Re: WOW fps issue

What GPU do you have? Which drivers? Is it retail or a private server you are playing on? Did you try to lower the settings, and change some things like V-sync on/off? Are you using DirectX or OpenGL?

Re: Linux, for gamers? Whats your thoughts?

When I originally tried Wine years ago, it was definitely a mess. In the last year I have tested over 100 games in Wine (with PlayOnLinux) and most of them run successfully. The key is to have a decent gaming desktop with a dedicated video card. I know there is some debate about Wine basically acti...

Re: Linux, for gamers? Whats your thoughts?

Well, I´ve come back to computer gaming thanks to being able to play games natively on Linux, I was off for a few years to consoles because I got tired of being forced* to use Windows for gaming. Bought a new computer last summer with Linux compatibility in mind. Most games runs fine, some have majo...

Re: Crusader Kings Linux Mint 16

Well the original Crusader kings is not available natively on Linux, Crusader kings 2 is however. So if you want to play the original CK in Linux you´ll have to use Wine, if you want to play CK 2 you just need to download it on Steam.

Re: Folders in home folder shown on the desktop

Thanks for replying. I followed your instructions and the "desktop-is-home-dir" was unchecked. However, I looked around a little bit in the dconf editor and found at desktop > background "show-desktop-icons", which I unchecked and now there are no icons at all, which is fine by me.

Folders in home folder shown on the desktop

I don´t know if this is a bug or just something new in LM 16, which I´m using. As the topic says, all folders that are in my home folder are shown on the desktop, when I remove a folder from the desktop it gets completely deleted. I´ve looked through desktop setting, the appearence settings and a fe...

That Metro: Last light crashes? Well I´ve played Metro 2033 in Windows and it also crashed from time to time.

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?

Did you play any games that you had from the older Nvidia drivers? Yes, but not so many of them. I´ve tried Metro: Last light, which is crashing with both drivers. :( Then also Euro Truck Simulator 2, which I get some FPS drops from time to time in, but I´ve had that problem for several months now....
