Re: Nvidia AGP card support or alternate

Well I run an agp 8x, bfg nvidia geforce 6400, it has 256mb of ram and can run mint 15 KDE fine. I got it from overstock.com about a year ago, but I think since then, bfg has gone out of business, so if you go with my card (which is really the only non ati agp I could find), you would have to look f...

Nope that's a myth. Smxi works fine in mint, I use it all the time to upgrade my kernel and graphics driver.

Re: Counter strike extremely laggy

Its most likely a steam issue. All of the Linux games from steam are ports, and don't work 100% as of yet. Not to mention they have a very small dev team for Linux. Much smaller than their one for windows. They are slowly ironing out the bugs, but its going to take a while. I know what you mean, I g...

Re: Re: Does Everything Require Terminal ?

For extended system administration and debugging, the terminal is faster, easier, more reliable and powerful, besides being sometimes mandatory like in... Windows. However, for everyday use and common admin tasks , GUIs have enough features onboard to let you do the job without any terminal to open...

Re: Help, Linux Mint 15 to Windows Install.

You could also use a usb flash drive to install windows 7 as well as other windows versions. I pulled this from a thread over on the ubuntu forums. "For Windows 7, format your flashdrive NTFS, and set the boot flag using gparted, then copy the stuff from the install CD or extract the iso to it....

Hmm I don't know much about the issue itself. But I have to ask; is this on a laptop? There's a known issue with mint running on laptops with built in Intel graphics as well as pcie nvidia cards.

Re: usb flash drive gets mounted read only

Hmm I'm also curious to see if your solution works pyrus as I had tried something similar. Even making a usbuser user group and setting it up from there with no dice. I still get the "Only root can mount this device" error. I'm going to keep chugging away at it and see if I can get anythin...

Re: where have my files under 'root' gone

That's because the home variable changes when you become root. By default under a regular account it sets it to /home/$USER but when you change to root it becomes /. The home variable is what tells linux where your home directory is, so when you open terminal your greeted with your own directory. If...

Hello all, I've been reading a few sources trying to get an idea of how to put together a new PC for data analysis (R stats, python) and general workstation (email, word processing). I've been tracking reddit/r/buildapc and tomshardware, and though I'm not intimidated by building a new PC, this wil...

Re: Re: building a new machine

I built my most recent desktop around the Asus Sabertooth board (non UEFI). I used an NVidia 560 CPU. I am very happy with this machine. Do you mean gpu? I'm pretty sure the saber tooth is AMD based. I would be too though with a gpu like that, it's pretty nice. Sprint GS3 Running TN's Msg and Chubbs

If you have a live cd/usb you could just try reinstalling it, overwriting the previous lm install in the process, and see if the issue still persists.
