Re: Vulkan api sdk 1.0 released

I thought i would post in this thread to bump it back up and to highlight hopefully some up coming improvements to linux gaming I believe the game Dota 2 has been updated to the Valve source 2 engine which supports the new vulkan drivers so you should get a FPS boost using these drivers. Also I thin...

Re: First time Linux user with a new build

Thanks for the info Pjtor I thought nvidia support was better within linux than AMD so I assumed very bad thing to do I know, that up to date drivers would be available.

You learn all the time :)

Re: First time Linux user with a new build

HI Ryan Generally drivers are not needed within Linux as most devices have community created drivers that work perfectly well, there are a few exceptions the graphics card being one. The system comes with a free non-propriety driver which should work well for most things with the exception of runnin...

A little more news on this subject today on the bbc website

Apparently even if you have a pirated copy in china you get the free upgrade - Microsoft has a long term plan I think.

Re: AAA games and GPU drivers - gaming discussion

I don't play a lot of games but I do run several steam games and all run equally as well as they do on windows using the mint appproved AMD drivers for my card. On counter strike source I would even say it gets slightly higher FPS than on windows and swapping in/out of game to desktop is much smooth...

Re: Having trouble installing steam Mint 17

Steam is available in the software manager on Mint 17.

just go to system > software manager and put steam in the seach box top right and the steam client comes up top of the list select it and click install.

Once installed it should appear on the start menu.

Re: Google maps street view crashes

I am also getting this issue in LM17 KDE running firefox. I had it just before I upgraded to LM17 when I updated Firefox to v30 so it could be a problem with FF v30.

Does street view use flash ?

Re: CS:S slow on ubuntu-based distros, why?

Why are you running it through wine ? Install steam for linux and run it native it will not cost you anything if you own it on steam you can play it on any format. I run css on steam for linux and it performs slightly better than windows now, although that is partly due to the new drivers from ATI w...

Re: Turn my Mint desktop into a server

As much as I would recommend Linux Mint where possible, I would suggest maybe looking at a more dedicated system suitable for what you want.

So I would suggest having a look at freeNAS which is controlled via a webpage login and would do exactly what your looking for.

Re: Linux Mint 14.0 & ASUS Eee 1015 PEM

Hi I would suggest downloading Linux Mint and burning to a CD/DVD or loading it on a USB stick and then running it from the CD/USB stick this is easy with most linux distributions so you can try the full system before loading it onto your computer. Then test all your hardware sound, webcam, bluetoot...

Re: Which Steam games would like to play on Linux?

I dont really like CSS it does not play the same as the original game and is very poor for hit boxes and hit registration. Which is why you sometimes get shot after moving out of the line of fire. Generally the gameplay in CSS is poor compared to the skill of the original 1.6 version. CS:GO is looki...
