Re: Is this true about Linux Kernel? Newbie asking...

This is a quote from another forum i visit, where they were discussing Linux and how secure it was. Just wondering... "The kernel was not build with security in mind. It doesn't distrust other parts in the system. The user space has no isolation. I can't see why people consider it "more s...

Re: Is Cinnamon Mint 18.1 bloated?

The trick is to check it immediately after you wake the machine, then tell us what you saw in Manjaro. In Mint it takes a little while (somewhere around a minute) till the number is reduced. You mean just after an hibernation or just after a boot? Or it's the same thing maybe? After a boot, here is...

Re: Is Cinnamon Mint 18.1 bloated?

I guess you either didn't notice or are just disregarding the comments from the 2 of us who are using LMDE (the "M" does stand for Mint). I just answered to the OP who said his system "runs 244 processes with just the terminal running and freshly booted?"... So, yeah, my ...

Re: Is Cinnamon Mint 18.1 bloated?

Hum, for comparison, I looked in Manjaro and I had:

Code: Select all

ps -e|wc -l
160
after several resumes after hibernation then several hours of use and Firefox with about ten tabs open...

So, this could be a Mint problem? :?:

evince dependency of nemo-preview

To the Mint Team.

If someone could answer to this man and remove this useless dependency, this could be great!

Re: Very long boot

Before going in 'complex' things, the simplest is to try to reinstall. It may have had a problem with the installation. And as you seem to come to install, you must not have yet really used the OS, so there is nothing to back up before. :)

You have well checked the install media before the install?

This is exactly how the address bar should behave in my opinion, as searching is what the search bar is for!
Well, for me this possibility of the address bar is not bad, even quite practical.

I don't know about Manjaro but that is the Debian model. Debian? lol Manjaro is Arch-based. If you consider Debian is like Arch then OK, Manjaro is like Debian... Re: Do we REALLY need MINT?

esp for stability when used in production environments. Mint's LTS releases provide a perfect balance as they are supported for so long so re-installation is seldom needed. Any mission critical machine should be running a very conservatively updated LTS release, the "don't break my system"...
